How long can hermit crabs stay under water?

im looking for the answers Not things that say im not suppose to put them under water ive already tried they could do it for over 30 mins but what is the max time?

Wow, they say not to submerge them for more that a few minutes or not at all to be on the safe side. Why would any one submerge their pet to see how long it takes to drown, this reminds me of the medical experiments the Natzis did to the Jews during WWII, they did all kinds of mean and cruel experiments to see how long it woyld take for an unset broken leg or how long it would take for blindless to set in if a person was forced to stare at the sun.

Tell me How did YOU FEEL WAITING FOR YOUR PET TO DIE WHILE LOOKING AT THE CLOCK, TO SEE IF THE INFORMATION WAS RIGHT? That kind of info is to protect those innocent crabs from cruel people like you.

I am going to post this as a question.

HOW WOULD YOU FEEL IF YOU WERE HELD UNDER WATER TO SEE HOW LONG YOU WOULD SURVIVE?

Miss Ophelia, The Question is to get attention , due to anothers users question about the fact that he said he was submerging his land hermits in water up to 30 minutes to see how long they would last, please read a bit better, before making assumptions about me, thank you!.

Erica, I have no Idea, I know that you and I both love our little guys, I know you have their best interest at heart but not everyone are like use and the majority, I had to post this so people would see the ignorance and meaness in people.

    This is truly appalling; I agree with those who find it unbelievable that this character should be happy for everyone to know what a monster he is.

    Omg that is just horrible that a person could care so little about an animal that they are willing to kill it to find something as trivial as how long a hermit can hold its breath!!!

    people like that should go to jail for murder. i've seen(and tried to stop) people doing stuff like that for example, how high will a cat fly with a firecracker strapped to it's back!? or what will happen if you put a poodle in a microwave!? people like that are all idiots who don't care about anyone but themselves. the world would be much better without morons like those people, and again, they should all face jail for murder.

    I would never do ANYTHING like that!

    Everyday when I take care of my crabs, I dunk them in water for about 3sec. about 5times, then put them in a metal (mesh) cage

    for 30 min, then when their dry, I put them back in my cage! Crabs are innocent, and never pinch, unless their unsure and think you will drop them, they don't have hatred for humans, don't be mean to them!!

    That's sick.

    I can be quite mean to people, but would never dream of harming an animal. People are idiots and often deserve it, but what has an animal done to deserve such cruelty?
