I have a Vespa question...?

I'm looking to buy a vespa, I looked on the website at all the different types but I'm still not sure what the difference is or which one to buy. What things should I know and look for when buying a vespa?

ARRGH!!! Why do people answer questions with falsehoods?

Vespas are NOT 2-stroke, you do not mix oil with the gas.

You can view available Vespas at http://www.vespausa.com/

Basically you have three choices -- 50, 150, and 250+ cc displacement.

The 50 is good for low speed city streets. Maximum speed is 35-40, but you get fantastic fuel mileage. I don't know about New York, but here in Los Angeles that is not sufficient to keep up with traffic on city streets.

The 150 is actually a 150.5cc and is thus "freeway legal." With a top speed of 55-60 I wouldn't make a habit of it. However that does make is capable of handling any city street, even Crenshaw past the Mobil refinery which generally runs 55-60 mph. (Gotta Love Los Angeles!)

The 250+ Vespas will do 75-80+ and are thus Interstate capable. I would not hesitate to take a GTS 300 Super from Los Angeles to New York.

As with any vehicle, you decide what you want to do and get the vehicle to match. I need to run freeways, so I would be looking at the 250-300. What is really nice about the Vespas is that they all look the same! You can put 50cc emblems on the 250 and only someone very familiar with Vespas would know you are lying. An execelent choice for being bad while looking innocent.

I have three two 125s and one punched to 150 all seem dependable and YES all mine are 2 stroke and 6V. I have a 58, a 60 and a 61.

Read the book "I See By My Outfit" It is about riding scooters (one Vespa & one Lambretta) from NYC to Sanddog. Written in the late 50s
