How do I start my own business? As far as choosing (corporate, LLC, or etc.) for my business, which is better?

Under my business I want to have a small clothing line, Music Label, and a smoke shop. So basically within the smoke shop I will be selling clothes, and my own cd's. Since I don't have a bunch of money to be paying for lawyers I don't really know which way to go. Also as far as ownership there will more likely be three of us. So I don't know if that still falls under sole proprietorship.?

Each of these has their own advantages and disadvantages. However, some would really come out better that the others. One sure thing is that a limited liability company (LLC) is fast becoming popular due to its many advantages over a corporation, particularly for smaller types of businesses.

There are several online services available that can help with incorporating your business in one state or several. I recommend you clickandinc who are business incorporation specialist. That's way the process will be lot easier. You can find more information and a comparison chart on thier site.

Three people means either Partnership, Limited Liability Company, or Corporation. Sole Proprietor is when you alone own the business.

Now, it looks like you want to open three businesses involving three owners. Neither is a good idea as partnerships tend to be bad form of business.

If I was doing what you want to, I would open one business (like clothing), which I would own 100%. Your other partners could take over Music and a Smoke lines in a similar fashion. Then you can all work together as partner companies.

Another thing, incorporation is not expensive when you hire a lawyer. Depending on the state you are in it will run you around $900-$1000.

If you cannot afford that at the moment, I would rethink you decision for now and would try to save some money first.

    Thanks,

    Larry

Have you tried www.TheMuseMen.com? They have a few services that either help you start a company or actually start it for you and just pay part of the profits.
