You need to hand in a "pro-form" when you get to the prison you,re going to serve your sentence. On this you can ask for 3 personal items at a time (1997) which your visitors can leave at prison reception.

Certain items are contraband. They will be explained to you during your " induction "

During a visit it is illegal to hand a prisoner ANYTHING. It is a criminal offence and they do prosecute. Ignorance is no excuse.

Make sure you take 2 of the clothes you want ( including trainers ) to court. That way you can have them straight away if you get sent down.

Try to make sure you have plenty of books i think you are allowed 4-5 and underwear, they will let you take underwear in with you, the books will be taken off you until that have been thoroughly checked for anything illegal. you will be asked when you enter if you smoke if you do you will be given a pouch of rolling tobacco - Red Bull its called, Cigarettes are a luxury in prison. You should hopefully have a TV in your cell, You wont be able get a CD player until you have earned it thought the privileges and incentives scheme, you will also be able to get a playstation and a DVD player through the same scheme. They will give you or your visitors a list at some point that says what people are allowed to send in. You will get something called a canteen - a list of things you can buy, you will be given phone credit and £2.00 to start with -

Firstly in respect of UK prisoners, is the prisoner on remand or have they actually be found guilty in a court of law.

Remand prisoners are entitled to longer visits and are able to receive more items such as CD's than convicted prisoners.

Secondly if the prisoner is found guilty, their catergorisation A,B,C or D may also determine what items they may receive.

Rules are far more comprehensive and rigid in there application in terms of High Security Category A Prisoners or e-list (escape list) prisoners.

you will be instructed that they are not allowed to bring you anything at all. You can give a list of those people who you will allow to see you. Your parents, husband or whoever is close to you can send you money or leave it there for you with the jailer when they come to visit and you buy your stuff right there at the prison behind the bars. Usually there are junkfood machines. I suggest you buy cigarettes for trading. It's no picnic in there.

If you are going to a prison in England or Wales the short answer is nothing.Prisons no longer use phone cards, all food must come from a secure source, books come from the library,Cds must be bought from approved sources using your money.Cigarettes and treats from approved canteen using your money.

Each prison or jail in each State can have different guidelines to what an inmate can have. It is best to call the prison or jail and ask them what is allowed to be transferred over to the inmate. Certain prisons or jails allow nothing at all, so don't be surprised at all.

Ten days? They don't need ANYTHING! They just need to go in and shut up. Keep their mind on their own business and get it done. They are not there long enough to worry about phone cards or anything.

It is literally up to the institution what they allow for their inmates.

Different states, counties and local establishments set their own policies. Expect nothing and you will avoid disappointment.

So far as books which have movies, the literature aren't limited by a set timeframe and thus can get into a lot more depth a feature size movie could. Sometimes movies conclude very different from the book

no theyre not allowed anything taken with them, they have to earn money when inside for their confectionary and phone cards. all they can have is sealed packets of tobacco brought in for them by visitors, that is scanned before they allowed to have it.
