My computer keeps shutting down unexpectedly?
I have a Dell Inspiron 1501. Today it's shut down twice without warning and I have no idea why! Anyone have any ideas?

If it happens without the battery (take it off and use the computer with the AC adapter), if it used to work ok, and you haven't installed anything new, the most probable cause is overheating. If you don't know about hardware, then you need to get a friend or someone who does (or send it to a repair shop). Get them to check the fans are working, clean the case, and make absolutely sure that the heat sinks for the CPU and graphics card are attached properly. If you are unlucky, it could also be that the hard drive is damaged and the hardware fault causes your computer to shut down, but have the battery and fans looked at first.

Well ... what operating system do you have? If its Windows 7 then they shut down every two hours until fixed right now. Otherwise its the battery or a virus. I hope that helped. =)

Does it happen when running any specific program, or just randomly?
Make sure you don't have any cables loose.
Are there any strange sounds? The only other thing I can think of is that your processor may be overheating, and many motherboards have a sort of siren which goes off when that happens.

Well my computer except shutting off due to the video chip and the power cord.
so maybe you should get it taken in.
maybe something inside it is messing up badly.

if it doesn't have any error messages or doesn't stop responding then it's probably not a virus. so it's might be something wrong with your hardware
