My kid was i think 8 when i first left her alone but i was only gone for like 30 minutes and we were really close to our neighbors and we were great friends and so they always had a place to go if something was to happen or they got scared. Also my daughter is a very, very responsible and mature child which is why i believe she can stay home alone. Now,she is 9 and we've moved and she stays home alone with neighbors right next door who adore her.I usually only go like to the mailbox or to the gas station and she does not feel like going. If you are wondering an age to leave your child alone take into consideration these things, age, maturity, trustworthiness, truthful, and their surroundings.

Depends on what you mean by "alone". I have left my son alone in the house for 1/2 hour while I was in the backyard cutting grass since he was 3 years old. At first, I would make sure there was something on the TV to hold his interest. Now, I just tell him where I'll be and make sure he's got something to do. He has never done anything wrong when alone, but has admitted to being tempted to take some candy once (but didn't actually take any).

He's 8.5 now, and I have not left him alone and driven away from my property yet. I trust him to be responsible and good when alone, but what really scares me (especially as a single mom) is what if something were to happen to me and I couldn't return? What then? Like what if I got in a car crash and taken to a hospital? I know it's a slim chance of that happening, but so far that has kept me from even driving up to the convenience store 2 miles away for milk without dragging him along. I might start with some very short trips this summer, if I can get up the nerve to do it.

The other consideration is how safe is your neighborhood? Mine is very safe. We live in the country, down a long driveway off a gravel road. Random weirdos are not likely to be stopping by.

Despite what people will tell you, most states do not have laws saying when it's okay to leave a child alone. Mine does (MD). It says a child must be at least 8 years old to be alone, and a child must be 13 years old to be left in charge of younger children.

I live in MA and here it is illegal to leave a child home alone before the age of 13. My oldest daughter turned 13 in May and I will only leave her alone to make a quick trip to the store when we will be back within a half hour. I think maturity level is important which I believe she has, but it is a crazy world out there and honestly I am scared to leave her alone.

If you are wondering if you should leave your kid alone, i'd take into account if he's known to cause trouble, if he has medical conditions (sick with the flu), or if he's mature enough to handle it.

But to answer your question i was 8 and i was taking a nap, woke up and my mom went to the grocery for like 15 minutes and i freaked out haha

A good age is 11-12 and an hour is a reasonable amount of time.

Honey, I leave my 3-year-old home alone every weekend while I go to the LA clubs. We live in the hood, but whatever.
