Has anyone had any experience with book publishers other than a vanity publisher? I need some names. TY?
The book was written by a friend, and is the best author I know. I am trying to help him, he cannot do it himself.

A quick and easy way to locate publishers is to look at the copyright page of a novel in his genre of writing. The name of the publisher, address and website are usually there. If you look at the acknowledgements page of some novels especially the first book of a series you might find thank you's with the editor's name in them as well as their agent.
--- Then go to the publisher website and see if they have a submissions link. Most do. If they take unsolicited work then you can submit with them and the instructions on format and who to send it to and how will also be there.
----- A literary agent is good if you can get one. Their websites will also have submission guidelines. The Knight Agency website is a good example.

I would start with writersdigest.com and passionatepen.com.
Writers Digest -- Has an abundance of information for writers; including information on publishers and agents.
Passionate Pen -- is a site that was started by a now published romance author Jenna Petersen before she was published. It has lots of information on agents and publishers. Most of the publishers/ agents listed handle romance, but many of them handle other genres as well. She also gives advice on how to query publishers and agents. It is a very informative site for writers with links to other sites that may also help you.

He needs to look into agents first, not publishers. Most publishers now won't accept unsolicited material. If they did I'm sure they'd be flooded with 10 000 vampire stories a day. LOL!
