How can my dad and I help my mom quit smoking?
My dad quit smoking when I was 4. He just... stopped. My mom still smokes. My aunts and my cousin have all stopped recently. My grandma asks me every time I see her "When are you going to get her to quit smoking?"
I've tried to tell her about lung cancer, tar, etc... but she won't listen to it. She says that she knows about all of that. I just don't know what to do anymore. Neither does my dad. Help? I don't want to lose her at a young age...

You can get her help, take her cigarettes, or simply talk to her, but nothing is going to matter until she wants to help herself. She has control of her own actions and you can't make her stop if she doesn't want to. I don't know what you could tell her. Perhaps try to make her feel bad by telling her that you don't want to lose her because of smoking - it sounds like the consequences of smoking have no effect on her. If it comes to it, tell her that you're giving up. Tell her that you've tried and tried, but she won't listen, so you are giving up. Say that you want to help her but she won't let you. Tell her that she needs to want to help herself.

You can't make her quit, until she's willing to. Till then, you can start taking away her cigarettes gradually, so she smokes less and less. Don't take them all away at once, or else she'll just go out and buy some more. You can also take her to a support group to quit cigarettes. There are also patches that can help smokers quit. It's harder for some people, for example your dad just .. stopped. That's really quick, for others they experience many withdraws. Be patient.
Good luck <3.

Many smoking parents believe that if they don’t smoke in their homes or in their cars, they are protecting their children from the affects of smoke. The toxins that clinging smoke emit into the air are known as environmental tobacco smoke or ETS. They can be re-suspended and can sometimes be react vapor-phase components, which in turns causes the smoke to be inhaled repeatedly. Children’s bodies are much more susceptible to the affects of ETS than an adult. ETS has also been linked to SIDS, ADHD, poor cognitive performance in school, mental retardation, behavioral disorders and other diseases.
