My fellow catholics, whats your opinion on this response I receive from my inbox on U -Tube today.?

There are a couple schismatic groups out there who feel that they are a "faithful remnant" of the Catholic Church. They teach that there has not been a valid Pope since Pius X and that all Papal councils and decisions after him are invalid. They feel they are more Catholic than the Pope, and the rest of us. They are, in my opinion another sect of protestant. Ignore them. Pax Christi

This person sounds like a Sede-vacantist, which means that he/she believes that the seat (sede) of the Pope is vacant. They do not believe that the Pope is a real Pope, and that there is no Pope at the moment.

Sede-vacantists are extremely traditional Catholics, who refuse to accept the Second Vatican Council as a valid council of the Catholic Church. Some of them have recently come back to the Catholic Church. I saw an interview on EWTN, where some nuns spoke about their return to the fold. They related how much they were fed propaganda, and were kept right away from mainstream Catholicism. These nuns were stunned at what the Catholic Church really teaches, once they found out what was going on.

This is very common, as a look at the history of all Protestant denominations can verify. Once a group breaks away, as the Sede-vacantists (and Protestants) did, they continue to collect "facts" to justify their break-away, and keep their followers fed with anti-Catholic misinformation, in order to protect their positions.

Traditional Catholics prefer to attend the Old (Traditional) Latin Mass, and some will only attend this Mass. Pope John Paul issued a document (called Ecclesia Dei) to allow the special celebration of the Traditional Latin Mass (around 1988, I think), with the local Bishop's permission. A couple of years ago a Motu proprio was issued, allowing further freedom for priests to celebrate the Traditional Latin Mass.

Some who opposed the New (vernacular) Mass, also called the Novus Ordo Mass, split into several camps, after it was promulgated by Pope Paul VI. Some joined Archbishop Lefevbre, and became the Society of St Pius X. These people, by and large, will not attend a Novus Ordo Mass. The new Pope has offered an "olive branch" to this society, recently, and a few have accepted a return to the fold.

Some people actually stopped attending Mass altogether (I know of some), when the New Mass started.

With the Ecclesia Dei document, a group started, called the Ecclesia Dei Society, and they organised, with their bishops, to have the Old Mass said, at various venues, etc.

The Sede-vacantists, however, not only refused to accept the new Mass, but refused to accept the authority of Vatican II, and any Popes since a certain date (I don't recall the exact date).

Their propaganda is based on lies, and distorted facts, but they feel continually justified by the genuine concerns within Catholicism, caused by widespread acceptance of the contraceptive pill (despite strong Catholic teaching against it), and of the weakening of Catholic teaching, across the board, as well as the way that so many people, and their children, no longer know what being a true Catholic is. This, for them, justifies their removal from the mainstream Church.

um, this sounds like a Trad Catholic thing. Trads generally want to take the Catholic Church back to pre Vatican 2 (1962), abolish the Novus Ordo Mass and advocate total return of the Tridentine (Latin) Mass. Many Trads are sedevacantists who believe that the current pope is invalid and the chair of Peter is currently vacant. The only thing I can say about Vatican 2 is that it was a pastoral council and that doctrinally the

church has changed nothing from that time. About the pope--- all this is a huge knot to pick apart, doctrines, reading, papal encyclicals, etc. But who are they in the position to judge the pope? I suggest you do som reading about Sedavacantism, Traditional Catholicism, the sspx and the Bishop Lefebvre. Again, really big knot to pick apart

To say that the Novus Ordo Mass and the Traditional Latin Mass are the same except for language shows that whoever makes such a statement knows next to nothing about the situation.

The Novus Ordo literally stripped almost everything Catholic out of the Mass, from the Offertory to the Last Prayers. SO VERY many things were taken out of the Mass. Archbishop Annibale Bugnini, the freemason who was the architect of the New Mass, had this to say: "We must strip from the Catholic prayers and from the Catholic liturgy everything that can be the shadow of a stumbling block for our separated brethren, that is, the Protestants."

Clearly, then, the "new liturgy reflects a new ecclesiology, whereas the old reflects another ecclesiology" (Cardinal Benelli) and one quite foreign to the Catholic Church. This ultimately means as Fr. Gelineau, S.J., one of the "experts" who co-authored the New Mass, pointed out, that "The New Mass is a different liturgy. This needs to be said without ambiguity. The Roman Rite, as we knew it, no longer exists. It has been destroyed." The Catechism of the Council of Trent tells us that "a Catholic sins against the faith by participating in non-Catholic worship." The New Mass is not Catholic worship, even if it has retained the name "Catholic," as did the Anglican liturgy until recently.

The Novus Ordo Mass is basically the "Mass" that the 16th century Protestant rebels wanted installed: they wanted a "community meal" and not a sacrifice to God. That is why the altar was stripped out of the churches for the New Mass and a Lutheran communion table installed. This is why the priest faces the congregation as a "supper host" instead of with his back turned to privately offer sacrifice to God. We now have a Mass designed by heretics like Luther and Camner.

I am NOT a sedevacantist! We cannot judge the Pope - only another Pope can do that. But, we can RESIST the pope. There have been several bad popes throughout Church history, and the post-conciliar popes have been truly bad popes (namely Paul VI and John Paul II). We are living in the worst times in the history of the Church. Heresy has reached the highest levels in the Church in the form of Modernism, what Pope St. Pius X called the "synthesis of all error." We must wait out this storm in the modern catacombs - by finding a Traditional Mass center, preferably offered by the Society of St. Pius X (SSPX). We must continue to pray for Holy Mother Church and pray for the Pope; that he is filled with a new sense of courage to lay waste the "spirit of Vatican II" and the errors of our times.

** and to the poster above me: the SSPX does NOT believe that the post-conciliar popes are anti-popes. The SSPX are NOT sedevacantists. This shows your utter lack of knowledge on the subject. The SSPX is the remnant, the true holders of the ancient faith. They are in full communion with the ancient faith and the current pope. The SSPX wishes for the return of Catholic Rome and the destruction of Modern, masonic Rome.

This person is from the SSPX and sending you spam, they believe that the popes seat is currently vacant and in pre Vatican II. There are quite a few although a minority, and a few on here YA too.

I'm Roman Catholic and I didn't read the whole post. The person sounds crazy and if you want to learn about the Catholic Church visit the Vatican web site. There are many documents on the Vatican web site that explain the truth.

This person is from the SSPX. They call themselves "traditional" Catholics but they are really anti-Catholic "catholics."

This person's attitude is a perfect example of flawed SSPX theology. After all, any theology that seeks top build itself up by knocking others' down, is a theology that leaves alot to be desired.
