just so you know you dont get paid hardly at all in the national guard, its like 200 a month, your family doesnt get any benefits either. the only good thing about it besides serving your country and deploying, is they pay for your college and if you pick the right job it will provide you with job training for the civilian side.

Go active duty and you and your wife will have free health care, free place to live, and you will make enough to help your parents.

Either way you will be deploying to iraq or afghanistan, i been in 3 yrs and already deployed twice.

If you dont care about the money or health care and just wanna serve your country part time, then as a national guardsmen you will live a normal civilian life, go do drills once a month in the same state you live in. You will deploy about once every 2 yrs.

Unless you have a "regular" job now, I would join the Active duty Army.

And depending on your job, national Guard deploys more often than Active duty.

With the National guard you only work 1 weekend a month and 2 weeks a year. So you still would need regular job.

But Active duty you work full time and you can send more money back home.

I joined the Army I leave for Basic July 27. I say you join the Army you will be better trained and recieve much more credit. But if you do not want to travel out of the country at all then do National Guard.

Do you want to be in the Army full time or part time?

NG is part time unless deployed or in basic or AIT. 1 weekend a month and 2 weeks a year. You pay to have health insurance, and pay a co pay to go to the doc. Yes you live in your home state and in your own home.

Army active duty is full time. Free medical insurance and care if you go on post or off with a referral. You can be moved anywhere.

If you are ordered to Iraq or Afghanistan in either YES you have to go. If you do not show for your deployment date you can be prosecuted under the UCMJ.

It's basically the same, but the national guard has less MOS' open (jobs). Go to the army so you have more options and can get a job you like.

    EDIT:

National Guard gets sent to Iraq/Afghanistan just like everyone else but start researching.

the national guard is part of the army, i take it by "army" you mean "active duty" though.

active duty has better benefits but you go where trhe army tells you to go for your whole enlistment time

in the NG you're at home unless its taht 1 weekend a month/2 weeks a year or you're deployed.

both active duty and national guard deploy.

after basic training you go to AIT (thats where you learn your job in the military) then you go to your unit where you do your job
