    you probably mean "verdammt!"

literary it means damned but you just use it as a mild cuss word to voice frustration

    could be followed by nochmal

    or bei -e Scheisse

I agree it's Verdammt that you're looking for. I don't agree that it isn't rude. German people I've known who've lived in England say that it is much closer to 'fu*king'. As someone has said, it typically comes as 'Verdammte Scheiss', and usually when people say that, you can tell from their tone that they're very annoyed; it certainly sounds more like the 'f' word than just the English 'damn', which in the UK at least is a mild word.

This is a case where you need the input of someone who has lived for some time both in Germany (or a german speaking country) and an English speaking country, and where even the difference between US and UK English is enough to throw you off course. Dictionaries tend not to help here, as they are far too conservative as a rule.

What is considered 'rude' varies so much even within one country that it's hard to judge how bad it is to use Verdammt. I've known contexts where it was fine and barely noticed, and contexts where it would have been offensive, just like the 'f' word in the UK. I would say that in Germany, there is generally not much sensitivity to things that in the UK are considered 'rude', like not acknowledging someone who stands back in a doorway to let you through, for instance. To Brits, Germans are rude because of these things, though Germans don't actually mean them rudely, it's just a different culture. 'rude' is a bit like beauty, in the eye of the beholder. As far as the person using the word is concerned, it's the intent to hurt that makes a word nasty, not the word itself.

But when all's said and done, the simple answer; it's the 'f' word.

I'm pretty sure you meant ''verdammt''.

    It just means ''damn (it)''.

You should say ''gottverdammt'', it's much more polite + it's a nicer word.. It's much more respectful toward God.

"verdumpt" is not a word in german.

You say "Verdammt!" as in "damn it", but in german it's not rude to say it.
