Any recourse for bad company checks in Texas?

We received two bad checks from a company in an amount over $10,000.00. We were told there may be a chance for recovery with the District Attorney's office? This is more effective and less costly than going through a collection agency. Is this true? .

Update:

SBA won't help. They are not a collection agency. This is a company we dealt with for the past 2 years but always on cash prepayment basis. The last sale we negotiated a net/30 and here we are...

So far... it seems like the DA office is the best choice.for these crooks.

If it was a scam, you should take it to the DA. If it was just bad payment from a valid company, the DA probably won't help much. You can always go to the DA later, and try a collection agency first, it won't cost anything if they don't collect anything. If I were you I would consult your local small business association for business matters like this and not Yahoo answers.

A collection agency is in business. and their service price is a percent of what they get. The DA is a legal authority who can charge them with a crime (which it is, if they did this willfully). They can ignore a collection agency.. they cannot ignore being charged with a crime.

If you have reason to think it was deliberate, you need to file a criminal report.
