MENSA hype for naught?

My dad carries around his little Mensa membership card in his wallet, and I read the magazine he gets from them (it's quite good)

But, is that whole society just arrogant people who can answer some silly questions correctly. I know it's the top 2% and they have their own test, but does it mean anything? Or is it just other people hero-worshiping?

I think the whole thing is a little pompous and ridiculous.

your thoughts?

No offense intended to your father for actually paying to join Mensa, but in my opinion, people who join a group based on nothing in common besides the results on IQ tests must be insecure and require self validation.

Agian, just my opinion, but the value of a person's intelligence should be the use they put it to rather than the sum of a test score. Having a high intelligence level is beneficial as long as one uses it to better one's family or society.
