Catholic or Protestant church?
Hi,
Ive recently became a Christian but now it is hard for me to choose the "right" denomination. Id like to ask wether you think it is better to become a catholic or one of the protestant churches. I dont like catholic teachings very much but i live in a small town where there is only a catholic church and Jehowah´s witnesses (i dont want to go there of course!). During the academic year, I stay in a larger city where I do have a possibilty to meet Protestants. So Id like to ask about your opinion- should I choose Catholics or Protestants? Im well aware I wont ba able to find a church that fully corresponds with all of my personal views, so Im asking which one is "less evil" :DD
Thanks

There is only one reason to become a Catholic, and that it because you believe in the teachings of The Church.
I've heard people say they don't like the teachings of The Catholic Church and their reasons for such, but I find they all usually stem from two things ;
1) They never understood the teaching properly in the first place
2) They find the teaching inconvenient for their choice of lifestyle.
I recommend that you look into RCIA classes and learn more about what The Church is actually about.

I chose Catholic
because it is the original one all the many Protestant groups broke from
it is the most consistent of the Christian groups in teachings ,etc
everything that each Protestant group had separately , the Catholic Church has all together i
it is the only really universal Church
I think that you do not know the Catholic teachings that well
get a copy of the Catechism of the Catholic Church, which also can be googled on line
Go and visit various churches and read up on what they actually teach
Pray to God to direct you

Dear Elderain,
I guess I will be a little bias because I am Catholic, and I have tried other faiths when I was thinking that I didn't care for particular teachings of the Catholic Church. But I want you to think about this and really study scripture, listen to Catholic Radio, Father Corapi is a great speaker. The one thing that the Catholic Church teaches according to the teachings of Jesus Christ is the laws set down by Christ and going all the way back to Moses. Priests, Holy Tabernacle, Holy Eucharist, Body and Blood of our Lord, the Blessed Mother, the Saints. All of it no other church teaches this truth accordingly without changing. I could not live without my Catholic Faith. Go to a Catholic book store, and purchase the following: The Diary of St. Faustina, The Souls of Purgatory, The Spiritual Warfare, The teachings of the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John., and also the teachings of St. Paul. Hopefully you like to read, and you will wait and study long and hard before you make your choice.

God bless you on your conversion to Christ.
As to which church to join, I would without question recommend you turn to the Church Jesus founded, the Catholic Church.
She alone contains the fullness of truth, is the guardian Christ entrusted to protect His Gospel. She alone has the sacraments and the valid interpretations of Scripture. As a former Protestant, I can tell you that the non-Catholic route is not the way to go. Protestantism, at its root, is simply a break-off from Catholicism. It is a movement that only came into existence 500 years ago, as opposed to the Catholic Church being founded by Christ 2,000 years ago.
Also, the Catholic Church is the only place to feed your body and soul with the Blessed Eucharist.
I sincerely hope you get in touch with a priest and ask about RCIA. There are so many blessings and graces that Jesus is waiting to give you in His Church.
God bless.

Think of it this way, the Catholic Church is the Universal Church of Christ which was founded by Him after His death and resurrection, it offers Apostolic Succession through the Pope it also offers the fullness of the Truth laid down for us through Christ. It is the most biblical Christian Church because it is Christ's Church.
The 33,000 denominations of Protestant Church's can bring you to God but they fail to offer the fullness of Christ's Truth lacking fundamental parts such as the 7 Sacraments which include the Body and Blood of Christ our Lord in the Holy Eucharist.
When Christ and His Apostles had the last supper before Christ's death He said " This is my Body" "This is my Blood", He did not say this is a symbol of my body, this is a symbol of my blood. Christ made the promise I will be with you always until the end of time, through the Holy Eucharist of the Catholic Church, He fulfills this promise. The Protestant Churches of the world do not believe in the True Presence of Christ in the Holy Eucharist through the Consecration by a Priest. They Protest the Papal office as well. If you chose protestant it is because you are in protest or because you have not researched.
Please read the Bible and the Catechism of the Catholic Church and then make a comparison to those Protestant Churches you are thinking of joining, you will find the fullness of faith in none other but the One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church of Christ, the Catholic Church.
Love and God bless you,
Kate

Don't listen to Chris. Chris preaches a false gospel of easy believism that leads to eternal torment. Very often, pastors who promote this false doctrine are lost men themselves, which helps to explain why they would be willing to promote such a soul-damming false doctrine. They remain Satan's "goats" instead of Christ's "sheep", on the road to Hell and not on the way to Heaven
In the last days there will be many false teachers. The one specific false teaching is easy believism. The biggest poison in churches today is easy believism. Easy believism is the idea that you can repeat a little prayer after someone and be saved without ever repenting of sin, as Chris has said many times. He says you can rape, murder, pillage, whatever, and still be saved. A LIE!!
First, easy believist always use a “simple plan” followed by the “sinner’s prayer”. They lead a person through a series of logical things to get them to say yes, similar to what a used car dealer does to get you to buy a car. Once they have the person convinced they then “close” the deal by saying “repeat this prayer after me.” The car dealer says sign here on the dotted line. Some easy believist tracts also have the dotted line close. The easy believist just led a soul to hell. The used car dealer just unloaded a car. The problem is that with a used car, you can return it if it is a lemon. The false profession generally fools someone for life until they drop off into hell. Repeating a prayer not from the heart just gives mental assent not saving faith. They think they can continue in their sins, because they prayed a prayer and now have fire insurance. In the Bible, there is never an instance of anyone being led in the “sinner’s prayer.” That by itself should raise red flags about such a man made technique.
Next, another sign of easy believism is they teach you don’t have to repent of sin to be saved. This is the center point of the easy believism heresy. A third sign of easy believism is that they only tell half the truth. They preach if you are saved you go to heaven, God will bless you, God wants what is best for you. Basically, if you want a life of roses then just come to Jesus. They leave out the truth that coming to Jesus Christ will cost you. First, you must leave your sins at the cross. It may cost you your friends, your family, your job, etc. We are told to take up our cross and follow Him. Coming to Jesus is not without a cost. The world will hate us even as it hated our Master Jesus Christ. The truth is that when we are saved there is a cost, but it is worth it.

The decision of which church shouldn't involve shopping for the one that corresponds to your personal views, but affiliating with the organization authorized by Jesus to preserve and express his views.
Matt 16:18-19 shows that Jesus authorized and empowered only one church. He appointed its first leader, Peter. He gave it the power to "bind and loose," so that decisions made by the church leaders (originally, the apostles, who became the bishops) would be ratified in heaven. He promised that the gates of hell would not prevail against the church.
For 1000 years, this "catholic" church was the only Christian organization. However, some wanted to start rival church that fully corresponded with their personal views. That's why we know have some 30,000 splintered denominations.
I was raised as a Protestant, and I spent some years as an adult in a Protestant church that corresponded to my then personal views. However, I now fellowship with Jesus' organization, and I have come to understand that original Christianity is much better than my limited understanding. Approximately a billion Christians worldwide likewise belong to Jesus' original organization.
Cheers,
Bruce

Which church is less evil or which one of your views is less evil?
Did God give you personal divine revelation? If not, why do you seek a Church that corresponds to what YOU believe? Are you just looking for a Christian stamp of approval of your beliefs, or are you looking to Know, Love and Serve God?
I suggest you search for the truth and then conform yourself to that instead of just finding a Church that only supports your own thought. If that is your goal, why do you even need a Church at all?
It might be a lot closer than you think if you take the time to understand it.

Obviously your not going to do well with the catholic Doctrine because you do not like it...so I suggest try to find one of the protestant ones , like Goldie locks you ll find one that's just right.
P.S The Catholic Church has NEVER changed it's doctrine to suit the needs of an ever changing social society, the truth will always be the truth ..it can not change... The ten commandments are not up for discussion or re interpritation...Thats why it's not easy being Catholic....

Eh...we're all one body in Christ. I would suggest you try out a number of churches to see which fits with you best in terms of the service and people. The longer you attend the more you'll find out about the differences between denominations and churches (or you could do some research on the Internet).
