I'm a Christian, a husband, a father, a historian, a writer, and a blogger. If you're interested, please visit my blog, which is about he convergence of anime/manga and Christian spirituality (http://beneaththetangles.wordpress.com/).

  • Are Christians compromising with the world in their interpretations of Genesis?

For example...I would say that most Christians today believe that the six days of creation were not literally six, 24 hour days. Each day could be a billion years.

That's nice and all, but what about this...if animals were created before man, and we agree with man's timetable (also assuming that animals like the dinosaurs became extinct before man was created), the entire theme of the Bible doesn't make sense; death would have been introduced BEFORE the fall of man, meaning that sin entered the world before Adam sinned. Genesis becomes a lie, right? And if it is untrue, how can one trust the rest of the Bible?

Some will point this out as evidence of the Bible's failure. However, I point it out as evidence of failure of Christians' faith. The evidence (scientific and otherwise) supporting a young earth is out there.

So, do you trust man's word? Or do you trust the word of God?

  • There's no such thing as Christian rock?

In the following question about U2 (http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AldUw... some answerers responded by saying that Christian rock is some sort of oxymoron and that its too much a "being part of this world."

I highly disagree. That argument sounds too much like our view of rock being the "devil's music" in the 1950s and 1960s. After all, while Christians are not to be "part of this world," aren't we also supposed to reach out the culture in their context (also a preaching of Paul - see his preaching to the Greeks)?

Additionally, music glorifies God through its beautiful sound as well as its words.

I believe most modern music, rock or otherwise, defames God. But I think any kind of music CAN glorify God. A song by U2 or Lifehouse can be just as worshipful as a song by Chris Tomlin.

I know what most non-Christians will probably say (but obviously, comment if you'd like) - but what do the Christians have to say?

  • Are we giving false impressions of various ideas through this forum?

Time and time again, I see people blaming Christians for things that are not the ways of Christ. While many of these opinions must have been formed from personal experience with "Christians," I can't help but think that many are formed through insipid answers on this board by people who are either on the fringes of "Christianity," who do not represent the real teachings of Christ or who are people trying to discredit Christians.

For example, the following link (http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=200706... seems to me to be an obvious satire by a non-Christian. But the responses, for the most part, take this person seriously. Those who do take it seriously are going to have just another piece of "evidence" for how horrible Christians are.

  • How do you deem who is "unworthy" of your respect?

In an earlier question, a bitter young man mentioned that Christians, who believe in "fairy tales," are not even worthy of his respect (http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AtEGQ... So my question to you is, "what makes one unworthy of your respect?"

How do you deem someone "unworthy" or "beneath you"? What is your standard?

  • Christians, which Presidential candidate would best represent you?

It may be way too early for most of us, but with the first Republican debate having just happened, I wanted to know who you all thought would be the person most representative of your ideas? McCain? Romney? Or a Democratic candidate (Clinton? Obama?).

I did not see the debate last night, but I've read up on most of the candidates. I find myself liking a dark horse, Sam Brownback, the more I read about him.

  • Do Americans feel a high degree of entitlement?

I asked an earlier question about charitable giving and one response mentioned that we shouldn't be made to feel guilty about NOT giving to third world nations.

    I disagree.

I think that we're blessed to be living in this country. But think about this...if we dug down in our pockets and SACRIFICED, we could save lives and improve the situation of people who are not so blessed.

Christians, perhaps, should be giving even more than the typical American, for Jesus proclaimed that we should avoid wealth, and He commended the widow who gave all she had.

So, do we feel entitled to be where we are? Are we of the opinion that we've worked hard for this money and its our own? Or do we support Bono and others fighting poverty with our actions as well as our thoughts, giving so much it hurts? What's the right thing to do?

  • Are you giving to the needy?

Many people in Africa are forced to survive on the 2 gallons of water per day, close to the average water wasted one a single flush of a toilet (World Vision).

The WHO says that people need a minimum of 5 gallons of water for use a day to stay healthy. Many in Africa survive on less than half that.

If we could provide good, clean water to people in need, we could solve so many of the problems in poverty-stricken nations. Disease, malnutrition and discontent would dicrease, and therefore violence would decrease as well.

It doesn't cost us much. My question to you all is this: are you giving to the needy and what do you donate your money to?

  • How do I get read of the squeaky sounds from my tennis shoes?

Two days ago, we had a rainstorm in my city. I walked on wet streets and through some small puddles throughout that day. Afterwards, I discovered that one of my tennis shoes made a squeaking sound. Two days later, the shoe still makes that sound.

The sole of my shoe is rubber, and the sound seems to be coming from a rubber part that is within the larger outside rubber part (think of a small circle, representing the squeaky area, within a large oval, representing the entire sole).

Is it as simple as drying it as thoroughly as possible? I thought two days would be plenty of time to dry. Any advice?

    Thanks!

  • What does science have to say about the origination of matter?

I'm not trying to be a Christian wise-guy. I'm just wondering - according to up to date science, how did matter originate? How did nothing become something? What predated the big bang? My belief is God has always existed and created our universe through the big bang - I'm wondering what the scientific response is to this. Thanks.
