Can a Canadian retire in the Dominican Republic and obtain residency there?

somewhere that is safe, stable, warm and will not tax me to death. I have heard that it is possible to obtain residency and even citizenship in the Dominican Republic. If anyone has experience or words of advice on this it would be helpful. Thanks

Yes, you definitely may retire in the Dominican Republic. Their is a special residence permit for retirees. It provides tax incentives to purchase a property, bring your car and furniture from Canada. You may also apply for Dominican Citizenship once you have a three year period with your residence permit or getting married to a Dominican woman and having a six month period with your residence permit.

I'm lawyer at a well known firm in the Dominican Republic, Pellerano & Herrera Attorneys. We carry out a lot of residence for retiree permits if you require additional information please contact us at www.phlaw.com. or call us to 809-541-5200.

I think you better look to Europe , because Santo Domingo as other places in the caribbean are not 'safe ' or "stable".Warm, yes , no tax, yes, but believe me try the sur in California , on the border with Mexico ,Lot of Americans and Canadians live there , they plan on staying , try before you decide.
