How to start eat healthier.?

Lately, I have started to become a little concerned with the affects that my eating habits could have on me in the long term. I've also wanted to start to get into better shape, but I know that with my current eating habits, there's no way that I'll be able to gain muscle.

For most of my life, I've been a pretty picky eater, so it's always been hard for me to try new things and I don't eat hardly anything that's healthy for me. So I was wondering if anybody had any suggestions for easy new foods to try or a website that could point me in the right direction?

Ok so dont try diets. They dont work. Simply because a diet only last so long. And a lifestyle well I think you know what I mean.

So daughter from a strict nutritionist for 30yrs, Suggests you look into the tiniest details. Pick up a book on organic & things that are bad.

    Ex: Bad things

processed meats, packed meats, bolognies: why they have nitrates & phosphates. Eat plenty and well you develope cancer and cause other things.

breads, & dairy: bleached breads are stripped from their nutritional value. Its basically bleached bread! empty food calories. Dairy: if you have heard of Rhbt is a hormone put in cows to produce an abundance of milk and is basically chemicals and not any good for you.

Fats, trans fats. Anything from animal fat is bad. DONT CONFUSE good fats such as vegetable fats as in avocado, cocounts, nuts etc. All good for you.

Eat fresh salads, steam cook veggies, whole grains, etc.

Source(s): I shopp at wholefoods & health food stores like trader Joes.

you have just confessed to the problem. Now identify the reason, and find the solution! Eating habits can be changed, but you have to want to change them Remember that dieting and healthy eating does not mean starvation. Make it at home, shop for yourself and avoid the killer fast foods. Myself, I work a hard job, I eat when I have time , I never eat after 5 PM, and when my belt notch goes up I stop the sweets for a while. And it really wont kill anyone to miss a meal and have a V8 juice instead. Do a self study, Identify every wrong and replace it with a right. and get some exercise, regularly. Even a slow paced jogging can lead to a faster one and eventually combined with healthy eating habits you will not only feel better, you will also look better.

  • Well, there are many ways you can start. What type of foods do you usually enjoy? If you enjoy meat, perhaps decreasing your portions on meat and increasing portions of vegetables would be beneficial. Making little changes like instead of snaking on chips and getting an apple helps. The best thing is not to push yourself too hard though, because then you will tend to quit easier. Staying away from white bread, pastas and empty calories would be a good idea. If you are into Asian foods, tofu is wonderful. The best thing is though, to start slowly. Good luck!

Take little steps. I used to eat very badly as well. Try to cut bad things out of your diet one by one. Always check the nutrition facts, sometimes it is surprising to learn what is healthy and what isn't.

If you want to gain muscle, try to find foods that will help. And remember to start with a minute or two of aerobics to get your heart going before beginning strength training.

One thing I would suggest is to do it in baby steps, If you try to change over night, it often fails, It sounds like you are making wise decisions.

Try going to your local natural foods store and looking at some of the books etc.

smoothies for fruit (make them yourself with just fruit, yoghurt and honey)

and make this sauce: mix tahini (sesame butter), peanut butter (optional), miso, soysauce (optional), nutritional yeast flakes, and a squirt of ketchup (optional) or any similar combination to taste ...

pour it over steamed vegetables and brown rice (or cooked millet).

I've never known anyone who hasn't liked either of these (maybe the first couple times it may not be your favorite, but the more you have it the more you feel like you could just eat it every night. lol.

Yeah, the sauce may seem fattening, but it's good fat and for those of you with the misconception that fat is bad for you, it is not, and it doesn't make you fat; sugar makes you fat.
