Now that a Republican Promise Keeper has been busted having an affair can we finally let the Lewinsky thing go?
A Promise Keeper and defender of the sanctity of hetero marriage has been caught CHEATING ON HIS WIFE can we throw away this unreal and unrealistic BS Puritanical ideal?
I will remain consistent here. If what Clinton did with his free time was none of my business then it's also none of my business what Mark Sanford, Larry Craig, John Ensign, etc. do with their free time. Agreed?
Clinton did lie. That's a no-no. But is it OK to lie about something that no one has any business asking? I mean, WHY was he asked about Lewinsky? She had nothing to do with the special Whitewater/Vince Foster investigation.

The fact is, the Republicans could not do anything to "get" Clinton without Clinton's help. Clinton squandered his "legacy",and the Republicans swarmed like flies, hoping to establish perpetual Republican control of the White House based on morals, not policy.
It's a political reality. Politicians and other powerful people will often abuse their status and succumb to temptation, and their political rivals will take advantage of that.
Democrats tend to put these things in a separate category - differentiating ones political accomplishments from their personal excesses.
The right wing tends to be a bit more hypocritical about this. They have assumed for themselves the mantle of protecting "family values", so it's more difficult for them to rationalize similar acts on their part.
Note that the leader of the Republican effort to impeach Clinton, Newt Gingrich, even while pontificating about Clinton's affair was himself having an affair of his own one.
Their only recourse is to attempt to distract attention and change the focus by excessive pontification over the actions of the opposition.
Boys will be Boys.

It makes me SICK how they destroyed that girl's life and probably even her soul. She was in love with/had a crush on Clinton. How many of us haven't had a crush on a movie star/celebrity/politician/others with a lot of power? The one with the power has the control over the one who has the crush etc. He should have defended her. I'll never have any respect for him because of that. And I have no respect for the ones who brought it to the public. What they did was wrong but it should have only been between them and his wife. No one else needed to know. I'm looking forward to the day the news reporters get their private lives exposed to the pubic. I shudder that we have a government who will sacrifice women like that. But then there was Terry Shivo. Don't get me started about her. "Land of the FREE"? I don't think so! People do things they shouldn't do and that they regret...and then there are evil people. There's a BIG difference. The government maybe should think about concentrating on the evil people.

I don't think you know much about Sanford. He's fairly libertarian, as I understand it, NOT one of those making sanctity of marriage a political issue.
However, he refused the stimulus package for his state, so something had to be done about him, clearly.
Regarding Clinton, any CEO of a large business who had sex with an intern in his office would have had huge problems. That is a little different. Also, Sanford didn't lie.

Sure, lets let the Lewinsky thing go. How about we turn to Sen. Edwards cheating on his sick-and-maybe-dying-from-cancer wife? However, what all these men have in common is this - they are all politicians and should be the last place we look to for role models of any kind.

It's not just that Clinton did it - he then committed perjury under oath, and lied to each of us by denying he had a sexual relationship with her.
But ultimately, the main difference between Bill Clinton (or Sandford, for that matter) and most of the rest of us is...
he got caught.

No, Clinton still takes the cake for getting a BJ from a chubby chick in the Oval Office...he'll never be able to live that down.

I am amazed at how the Republicans are trying to turn Sanford into a Democrat now.
And no, they'll hang on to Monica until their last breath.

I never held on the Lewinsky thing to being with. And yes, I do agree with you.
