Why do people never go to hopitals anymore?
Half the questions on Yahoo! Answers are from people who have serious injuries (I've answered so many people with broken limbs and concussions), and yet they seem to think it better to sit around and wait for people on the internet to tell them what to do, rather than do the logical thing and go to a hospital when they think they might be injured. Why is this? Is there an actual reason, or is the internet just full of people missing basic common sense?
Oh yeah, I'd forgotten about Medical Insurance ><. I'm in Britain, where the NHS is free. That's probably it

Is the internet full of people lacking common sense? Yes, obviously. But I think there are many reasons for why people use Yahoo (and other sites) for self-diagnosis.
1. Some of these people are hypochondriacs.
2. Some of these people are hoping for the opinions of their peers prior to seeking professional medical attention. OR they are using the opinions of their peer to decide whether or not to seek medical attention.
3. Some of these people are asking for a loved one (even without their knowledge) because they are desperate to get to the bottom of things.
4. Some of these people HAVE seeked medical attention and have gotten nowhere. This really isn't that unusual. If you actually read what some of these poor people have to say, you'll see that.
5. Some of these people, myself included, have no medical insurance and are unemployed, were recently laid off or fired, and have no means of paying for medical care. This is a serious social problem.
I'm sure I'm missing some. But this is what I can come up with off the top of my head.

I believe that those who ask medical questions on Yahoo are just looking for temporary comfort until they can get to a doctor. Hopefully, they are not using Yahoo as an alternative form of medical treatment.
