Belly button piercing gone WAY wrong?
I had my belly button pierced about a month ago. I was keeping it clean and taking care of it. It was doing perfectly fine until today, when I noticed a giant swelling full of pus behind one of the punctures. What should I do?

I had that on my nose when I had it pierced
It'll scab off
But if you're that worried go to the piercing place and ask them

I'm assuming it is infected. I have mine pierced and this happens to me sometimes as well..and I've had mine pierced for over 7 months now. I suggest you:
-Use H2Ocean (you can buy it at Hot Topic) It's great for new piercings as well as for cleaning piercings that are already healed even. It lessens the chance of infection, scar tissue, etc. It has sea salt, lysosomes, enzymes, etc. Really good stuff! It comes in a spray bottle and it's around 15 dollars, but WELL worth it. I've gone through about 2 bottles now. I just recently purchased my second bottle, but I use(d) it a lot so that's why I ran out. The bottle should last long though otherwise.
-Clean your piercing with sea salt mixture about 3 times a day, no more, no less, since your piercing is still pretty new.
-Don't touch your piercing, mess with it, fidget, etc.
-Wear loose shirts, preferrably cotton
-Don't sleep on your stomach (or try not to, lol) as this can irritate a new belly piercing, esp. one that is infected
-Keep it clean and it should be fine in a couple of days (about a week or two at the most). if not in about 2 weeks, go see your doctor.
Goodluck hun! Keep it clean and take care <3

Get a cup of warm water and stir some salt in it. Then kinda lean your belly ring over the cup then lean back so the cup is upside down on your belly. Lay like that for 10 to 15 minutes if you can. I just used regular table salt, but some people say use special salt.. Do this a couple times a day until it goes away. I did this on my belly piercing and it worked wonders. Good luck!

The same thing happened to mine a few weeks after I got it pierced. I have sensitive skin so almost everything gets infected. It got really gross but I refused to take it out, and after putting alcohol on it 3 times a day, not playing with it and washing with anti-bacterial bar soap (usually dial) it got better in time. Just try not to fool with it or touch it without washing your hands first, that will really help. Oh and the pus is normal, it just means your body is fighting off the infection.

Continue your current cleaning methods its likely it was simply irritated/infected due to the fact that it is an open sore still, and because there is a foreign object in your skin your body is going to be working extra hard against bacteria in that region. Think of it like your belly button is at DEFCON 2 a heightened state of awareness because of the ring. So any contaminate will be bombarded with antibodies to reduce the spread of infection.

Yes if done by an unlicensed piercer you piercing can come out crocked and with an infection. Make sure to get it pierced at a reputable place w/ pro piercers who use sterlized equippment and hollow needles.

Swelling is normal, rest assured. As gross and painful as it sounds, squeeze the puss out, and clean the piercing out well with soap and water, then medical rubbing alcohol. Make sure you clean and sterilize the jewelry well before inserting it back in to prevent infection.

Um pus is completely normal and so is a little bit of swelling. But giant swelling? I'd go call your piercing shop and ask just in case...

I'd go to the place where you got it done and get it cleaned and maybe they can tell you what's going on. I used to have my nose pierced and I got bubbles and puss and crap and they cleaned the crusting and all off and gave me special stuff to clean with. Getting it clean at the place every once in a while might help.

i haven't read any of the other answers cuz there's too many, so if you get to mine...
first, go to safepiercing.org for proper aftercare. make sure you are doing these saline soaks. if you aren't, you'll notice a difference over night.
second, brew a cup of chamomile tea. use the hot/warm tea bag as a compress for 15 minutes, twice a day. that should get rid of tthe bump.
third, don't mess with it. popping it will just make it come back, usually worse.
fourth, make sure you go to safepiercing.org
