If global warming is a fact why are global temperatures going down?
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,333328,00.html
Tuesday we told you about several areas around the planet experiencing record cold and snowpack — in the face of all the predictions of global warming.
Now there is word that all four major global temperature tracking outlets have released data showing that temperatures have dropped significantly over the last year. California meteorologist Anthony Watts says the amount of cooling ranges from 65-hundredths of a degree Centigrade to 75-hundreds of a degree.
That is said to be a value large enough to erase nearly all the global warming recorded over the past 100 years. It is reportedly the single fastest temperature change ever recorded — up or down.
Some scientists contend the cooling is the result of reduced solar activity — which they say is a larger driver of climate change than man-made greenhouse gases.

it is NOT a "fact". Scientists all over the Globe have said that Gore and his croonies are using false information. It is ONLY a way for any Government to take more power over our lives. It IS a way for any Government TO ENSLAVE its' citizens.

well jeezsh, when you are getting your daily propaganda from fixednoise... why cant anyone understand that the changing atmoshere of the 3rd rock from the sun has nothing to do with the weather right now. This planet is millions of years old. Originally human life as we know it could not have existed here any more than we can exist on Saturn right not. Our atmosphere is changing again and, in time, shorter than our great grandchildren would like, humans will not be able to exisit here again. Why are you so worried about the weather in your suburb? Look at the ice caps if you need something simple that you can see and touch without having to think too hard about. Jeezsh.

Global Warming is very real its Man Made Global Warming that is up for debate. The climate of the planet is always changing and we have a hard time predicting the weather for next week so Im skeptical of the computer models that support this.

Slight variations occur, but the trend in the lower atmosphere is toward higher temperatures, thus more ocean evaporation, more snow and rain in certain places. The temperatures in the upper atmosphere are lowering. Heat can't escape from the lower atmosphere because of green house gases, so there's a gradual warming trend. Because heat can't escape from the lower atmosphere the upper atmosphere is slowly cooling. True, solar activity can go up or down, but that has no bearing on the heat content of the lower atmosphere or it's ability to radiate incoming solar radiation. 'Record' cold can also happen, but that's 'temperature', not 'climate'. Winters are shorter and summers longer and that's the overall issue. Climate change is real enough...let's not discount it.

I don't know where Brit Hume got his figures, as he didn't bother to actually cite any sources. But what he's really doing is looking at one small thing and declaring it to mean something other than what it really does. This was from February, 2008, so presumably the drop he was talking about occurred in 2007. According to NASA, 2007 was the 8th warmest year on record. The drop was because 2008 was even hotter. But you can't look at one year and say the trend is over, of course. You could look and see that 11 of the hottest years on record have been in the last 13 years and see a trend.
And the solar activity idea has been so completely disproven that nobody gives it any credence any more.

Wait a minute.. did I actually just read on this question someone say " 100 degree temps in Florida are unheard of"????????????? Are you kidding me????? I have lived in Florida all my life and yes.. we have 100 degree days all the time during the summer months as well as some during spring and fall... Hell I remember being out side on Christmas Day in tank top and shorts..lmao.
With that said, Man made climate change.. no.. I don't think so. I learned too many years ago in my ninth grade science class that the sun's activity have a direct bearing on our temps , just as the moon does our tides.
This stuff is getting way out of hand and with this new bill they will no doubt pass.. we will all be paying for nothing.

There is a difference between climate change and temperature change. We are talking about an overall warming trend that has been going on for the past 50 years. One year where it is cooler than the last can be expected. Overall however no one denies the earth is getting in warmer. Something like 98% of the legitimate scientific community recognized that this is because of increased carbon dioxide/monoxide in the atmosphere and 90% of them believe its primarily caused by man. Sure there are nay sayers but at this point denying that it is happening is like saying the earth is flat or that the sun revolves around the earth, it's just absurd.
Sure there have been temperature changes in the past, but the earth has rarely seen such a dramatic increase in temperatures in the past over the course of such a short period of time. This happens to correspond with the industrial revolution and increased human output of greenhouse gases.

Remember the Carter presidency? Then it was the fear of another ice age. Late 70's early 80's. It seems every time a liberal takes office the weather changes dramatically one way or the other. Yes this one started during the Clinton administration.

Earth's temperature is directly proportional to the Sun's sun spot activity. THERE IS NO SUN SPOT ACTIVITY. Hence the cooler temperatures.
When the Sun spot activity is higher... The temperature goes up...
This has lead me to develop the simple global warming theory I like to call, "It's the Big Yellow Ball in the Sky Theory" that leads to both global warming and cooling.

O.k lets play your ignorant game that isn't grounded in science or fact.
If global temperatures are going down then why was it over 90 degrees in northern Michigan this week? That's record breaking temps for that far north in June. And, it was in the 100's in Florida which is basically unheard of. Sorry charlie but it isn't science based on day to day fluctuations in temperature. It's about averages and the scientific research on the matter is in and it says that average temperatures are going up. None of this has anything to do with solar activity. The human activity with emitting hydrocarbons and greenhouse gases into the air is changing our planet. THAT's scientific FACT. Our weather all over the planet is getting more extreme and the polar ice caps ARE melting. Look at the scientific facts, not the fox news channel.

An explanation i've heard quite frequently is that the ice caps are melting which makes the ocean water cooler which then produces colder whether in certain areas.
