Mormon "prophets" have a horrible history of extremely false prophecies. On mormon prophet, for example, predicted that "Zion" (the then-Mormon capital) would ever expand in Jackson County, Missouri, but he had not yet gotten news that the locals had tarred and feathered some Mormons and ran them out of town, heading ever westward eventually to Utah. There are many books written on the subject of the proven ridiculous claims of Mormonism regarding both historic events and future events.

But for two specific errors of "prophet" Joseph Smith, try these: He predicted that the second coming of Jesus Christ would occur in a specific year, 1891.

And he made this interesting statement in the "Millennial Star": "I prophesy . . . that, if Congress will not hear our petition and grant us protection, they shall be broken up as a government, and God shall damn them, and there shall be nothing left of them, not even a grease spot.'" See, he was not only a false prophet, but not a very charming one at that. The claims of Mormonism rest on this psychotic founder, who was killed in a jailhouse shootout during which he took the lives of others as well.

How do you test a prophet?

    The Bible tells us...

"But the prophet who shall speak a word presumptuously in My name which I have not commanded him to speak, or which he shall speak in the name of other gods, that prophet shall die.’ 21 "And you may say in your heart, ‘How shall we know the word which the Lord has not spoken?’ 22 "When a prophet speaks in the name of the Lord, if the thing does not come about or come true, that is the thing which the Lord has not spoken. The prophet has spoken it presumptuously; you shall not be afraid of him," (Deut. 18:20-22). emphasis added.

The false prophecies of Joseph Smith include:

That Jesus would return within 56 years (History of the Church, 2:189)

That a temple would be built in Missouri within Smith’s generation (Doctrine & Covenants 84:2-5,31)

ALL nations would be involved in the American Civil War (Doctrine & Covenants 88:87)

That Isaiah 11 was about to be fulfilled (Pearl of Great Price, Joseph Smith, History, verse 40)

In addition to his failed prophecies, Smith taught false doctrine, lied about polygamy, deceived his wife, married the wives of other men, used his position as a church leader to coerce young girls into sexual relationships, changed his revelations, changed his story of the first vision (7 times), etc. He hardly meets the test of a prophet.

It's quite possible that Joseph Smith was psychotic. His beleif that Jesus had already visited the Native Indian people of America is typical of a psychotic misunderstanding. The Native Americans had already tuned into the Great Spirit long, long before any white men came along to tell them the 'truth' of the One God. If the whites had been willing to learn rather than preach they would have discovered a theology far more advanced than their own. And it had nothing to do with Jesus. He was cool, don't get me wrong, but he wasn't the saviour of humanity and the Native American people didn't need his teaching although they respectfully listened.

He was a Prophet of God. And while nay sayers will say that some of his prophesies didn't come true, they lie. All of Joseph Smiths prophecies have come true or will come true, all in God's on due time.
