If you mean that you have a low wage and have to pay for petrol or bus tickets and buy your lunch and do not have enough money left to survive then the answer is no. If you have been with a company for a few years and they move premises and it is inconvenient for you to get there then you can claim constructive dismissal and benefits. If your wage is not enough to survive on do you not claim working tax credit? From recent experience it is impossible to survive on benefits of £62 per week, surviving on a wage cannot be as bad as surviving on benefit. - UK

They say now if you resign or quit you cannot get unemployment due to you resigned. So if you are not making enough money you should talk to your boss and say you need more money. If the place lays you off or fires you then you stands the odds of collecting unemployment. So what I would suggest is going to the boss and saying I need a raise. If you are not liking your job then you should start looking for another. Today though jobs are hard to come by depending on where you live. Do you have public transportation can you use that? Can you ride a moped to work? Can you ride a bicycle to work? What changed to make the job different than what it was? Are you happy with the job? The Best thing to do is set down and take a piece of paper and write down the pros and cons to the job! After you do that see which one has more pros or cons!

I doubt it very much - you are making yourself intentionally unemployed - practically the only reason you can get benefits these days is if you are made redundant - is there not another way round it - eg a lift from a colleague who you can share the petrol costs - how is it too expensive for you to travel? is there no public transport?

No. Unless it is many miles away and you havent got a bike.
My Grandfather walked 5 miles to work every day, did an 8 hour shift down a tin mine and walked home again.
DHSS will expect you to have made a huge effort to get there.
