i have a 5in hunting knife in a sheath you can put around your waist i was wondering the laws on carrying a hunting knife in open view and if you can give specific penal codes or sites on this

Penal Code section 12020 specifically provides that a knife openly carried in a sheath at the waist is not concealed. However, note that if any part of the sheath or any part of the knife is concealed (e.g., by a long shirt) then it will be concealed (and, since every fixed-blade knife is a dirk or dagger, illegal).

That 5 inch blade is too big to carry on an airplane. If you are traveling you will have to have it under the plane with your luggage, not on a carry on bag.
