How can you prove that you have freedom of speech?

Criticize the government. Choose your favorite branch of government or elected leader, then assert that they are doing a poor job, expound on conditions in Guantanamo, etc. You will find that nothing happens.

Then, try it in a more repressive country. The currently interesting one is Iran, where people are complaining about the recent election. Or try it in Myanmar. I think you will notice a difference.

If I said this about Muslims in Iraq, Iran, Saudi Arabia, I would be taken to the border of the country and be shot in the head. Here in the US I can bash Christians, and people just say I'm a jerk, but I can not be killed by the government. That's freedom of speech.

It doesn't mean that I or anyone has the freedom NOT to be offended, freedom of speech does not give you the right NOT to be offended like most christian Americans believe. If someone, for example, is offended by the above statement, then that person needs to grow up and get over themselves. That's freedom of speech.

The press and the media won't let you. If you ever talk ill of them, they'll strike you down. You just have to say pretty things on how the press protects your freedom of speech as long as you say whatever they want.
