Will Iraq be able to maintain it's democracy?

Will Iraq maintain it's democracy and stay united or will someone coup the government? Will it stay as one country or will it break into 3 parts?

I've been over there for the Army. Just curious to see what everyone thinks. Be as intelligent with your answers as you like.

Update:

God - wrong!!!! You would have just been fired as the S-2.

Clayton, you lost me . . . completely.

No I don't believe so. Its just that the people in the middle east have had little to no democracy for thousands of years. Their not all of a sudden going to change in the next 10 or so years just because we tell them. Its terrible that they have always been run but dictators but that the way it works over their. With one powerful ruler no one will resist so there will be peace. Of course not always but their wont be widespread violence because they would be too afraid to suffer the consequences. It sucks but it has worked for thousands of years and most likely will continue.

Most likely will stay a democracy. They aren't as religious over there, the religious divide is more of an ethnic divide, so I doubt we'll see some kind of dictatorship put in place, but conflict will likely remain for some time.

I think that once a force comes through after we leave, (I served too so thank you brother,) and pushes the people around, I have a feeling they will collapse, all over again.. But we will see..

Thank you for all of those that stand behind your Soldiers..

I dont think so. as soon as we leave the insurgants will be right back and take it all over again. The iraqi police/military are not well enough prepared yet to take complete control over iraq.

Apparently Iran does not have a Democracy anymore than we do.

  • I really hope so. It would be nice to see that happen, and make the world see that the US's armed forces didn't go over there in vain.

Thank you for serving our country.

  • There's really too many factors to make a worthwhile assessment.
