Hey I'm a 14 yr old gymnast :) except a girl. And I'm only like level 7 .. . But anyways. This is a tough decision huh? If I was you I would wait until you are fully recovered from both which might be at least a year? I'm guessing a while though. I would guess that you love gymnastics seeing as you have gotten this far.
So anyways I think you just have to wait until you are recovered. maybe go back to a gym and see if you still able to do some of the skills. And if you feel like working back up to what you had then go for it.
What I think one of your best options is to go back and start coaching and helping out etc. Then one day you can have your own team :)
This is what happened to my coach. She was a level 9 and then had to have a bunch of surgeries. You can tell she misses it but she still does stuff like backhandsprings. .
Good luck!
Source(s): competitive gymnast. . thinking about quitting but not sure. I don't have a good reason to quit though. - 5 years ago
I have been doing gymnastics for 7 years now, unfortunately wasting 3-4 years at a gym club that was not particularly very good. I am am now 14 years old and I train 2-3 times a week for 2 1/2 hours. There are different levels of gymnastics at my club for example; recreation, floor and vault, artistic and acro and each train for different amounts of time.

wow your 14 and already a level ten that's amazing!!! I had wrist problems I now wear a rist guard. I had to go through therapy im a level 8 and im 14. It sounds like you hagoingood carrier going for you. there have been plenty of gymnast who have had serius injuries and came back from them. whether you quit or not is somtheing you should decide for yourself though ask your self if it is worth the hours, the injuries, and do you really love it??? but in my opinion most gymnast your age are in like level 7 or 8 soo your already way ahead of a lot of people and you have lots of time to heel and train and get back on track!! :)

Follow Libby's advice. Even if you can't do much yourself, you can still coach and help out. That way you wont feel like you totally quit.
Apparently level 10 is very good for your age. So if you ahead, then you should be able to take as much time as you need to completely heal without worrying about getting behind.

i am a level 8 gymnast n the same thing happened to me kinda except it started wit my knee....i tore a cartilidge in my knee n had to get surgery..it felt like it took a life time to recover ...i wanted to quit as well ...but seriously dnt ....keep going to the gym even with ur injury n work wat u can...do legs and stuff....n kep going to physical therapy...as for the wrist injury occuring now thats jus bad timing and once again that happened to me too jus a lil diff after i had surgery n starting to recover i found out that i had a hip injury too my tendon started pulling away from my bone ...so i was out of gym even longer ...n u n i both no when ur out of gym for even a week its like u loose everything.....so my advice dnt quit keep going to gym do strength n stuff jus to keep u going ,,,,keep supporting ur teammates and even tho it might seem like a life time ull get through it n be back in the gym before u kno it
