atheists,how do you feel about Christian End-timers?

They're about the same as people who speak to leprechauns, on my freak-out-about-them scale.

The Rapture Ready forums make me shudder.

Um, some Christians believe that the end of the world will happen within the next few years. this has been true for almost two thousand years. John the Baptist said, "The Kingdom of heaven is at hand", which means "right here". Jesus said, "No one knows when the end will be, not even the Son, but only my Father who is in Heaven.' So any Christian who claims to know when the end will come needs to bone up on their Bible a bit... I used to think that Reagan would be the anti-Christ...his name, Ronald Wilson Reagan, is, uh, 666. Hal Lindsey wrote several books saying that doomsday was due any time now, including "The Late Great Planet Earth" and others. I doubt that Obama is the anti-Christ. But, like Chris Rock says, "It must be the end of the world. The best rapper is white, the best golfer is black, the tallest man in the NBA is from China"...and now our president elect is the son of an African goat herder. What could be next? An Asian who wins the Daytona 500? A female heavyweight champion of the world? A WNBA team with all hetero females? A pregnant man? oops...

Occasionally, I worry that they could be creating a self-fulfilling prophesy.

But most of the time, I just see them as being lemmings. They're so convinced that the end is near that they spend all their time connecting the dots, and obsessing like conspiracy theorists. I don't see them having much of an impact on anyone except their fellow end timers.

Definitely. I even asked a question about it some time ago, citing cases like Heaven's Gate, Branch Davidians, The People's Temple, Solar Temple, and others that have commited mass suicide and murder.

Just a few minutes ago there was a question from someone convinced bunkers are being built and ready to be occupied to wait for the rapture. I believe that, starting in 2012, we'll hear about many more terrible news from all over the world, by fanatics.

I feel they are pathetic. They are literally chomping at the bit for international conflict, to usher in the parousia. They have no sense or knowledge of the history of apocalyptic thought or eschatology, and finally they have inflated egos in that they are so self important as to be convinced this will occur while they are living. I loathe them.

They're just annoying. I don't mean to, but all I can think of is ignorance, or need I say it, stupidity. Because, it's like they have their own "theory" wrong. So many of them don't even realize that certain things have to happen before their little end happens.

Pff, appocalypters don't have any power. Nobody listens to them, they're like the new world order or Illuminati people, nobody cares.

The glow in their eyes, as they describe the coming hell on Earth makes me think they would love to watch. It does not speak to me of a love for mankind.

usually I tend to think they're not sufficiently engaged with reality to do any real damage. then I remember stuff like 9/11 and I'm not so sure.
