No, you'd have dual citizenship. The British government would still recognise you as a British citizen and would give you a passport, regardless of your citizenship status in Canada.
You can voluntarily give up (renounce) your British citizenship if you want to, but there's absolutely no obligation on you to do this.
Some countries require you to renounce your original citizenship before they allow you to become a citizen, but this is not the case in Canada.

Please ignore approximately beefpuke as he's clearly uninformed approximately Canada. The plenty touted tripe that Canada delivers a conduit for terrorists thoroughly ignores the reality that the terrorists who have been at the back of the 9/11 did not come from Canada. Alberta and BC by no potential sought statehood interior the U. S. the two, in case you probably did not know. i don't know or know of any individuals who see Canada as a territory of the U. S. i don't know the place beefpuke (the call says all of it, eh?) gets his imaginary archives. All that aside, it is going to take you a ordinary quantity of time to immigrate to Canada. as quickly as your application is gained via immigration officers, it is going to sit down on good of the different 980,000 purposes already there.

You will always retain your British citizenship. The only thing I believe you may lose is the cost of living rise on any British state pension you have accrued once you retire.
