Business trip tomorrow: would you drive or ride?
It's a 3.5 hour trip on country roads ... About half is expressway.... For a one hour meeting... Then 3.5 hours back home again.
I've gotta leave at 6am and it is winter here... But tomorrow promises fine weather even if a bit cold.
What would you do? Ride or drive... I leave in 8 hours from now so when I wake up I'll check for answers!!

If it is a very important meeting, I think I would drive. For two reasons:1) You will need all you energy and intelligence in the meeting. 2) It is hard to hide the fact that you rode in the cold for the first hour until the body starts to acclimate itself again.(ruddy checks and cold handshakes, to name a couple reasons)
Now having said that, I, because I have a huge bat-wing fairing and solid lowers, on my bike; and helmet with shield, would consider riding. But, you didn't say how cold, where you are at, and most importantly, what the conditions are. Nor did you give us any idea what kinda bike you have. You say winter, but here in Indiana, winter means black ice, snow, sleet and the like. Check the forecast and make sure you have a couple of cups of warm coffee at your final destination before you make any important decisions. God Bless You no matter what you decide!

Ah, Spanky. I love you -- a kindred spirit.
When I used to live in Brooklyn, NY I had a car that I just could not let go of. That feeling of Freedom! But practically the only driving I did was to go out twice a week and move it from one side of the street to the other because of the parking regulations.
When you say "ride" I assume you mean bus or train. Go that way, have a nap on the way or do some preparatory work on your computer. There will be ample time for excursions. But I would feel the same disappointment you probably do hearing that advice.
I mean, what's a cowboy (girl) without a horse?
Source(s): EDIT: Gosh, looking at other answers [and finally the category, duh...] it seems the choice might be between driving and a three-hour plus (winter) bike ride? If so, I take that business about "being kindred spirits" back! P.S. Should delete this, I guess because of plain beside-the-pointedness. But hey, the thought of you going across hill and dale on your purposeful ride is fine to think of. Maybe I should polish up that ol' helmet myself... - Bandit-05Lv 71 decade ago
Depends on that morning temperature (you mentioned leaving at 6 am). You can always bundle up for the morning ride and take a knapsack to dump the extra clothes in for the return ride home when it gets a little warmer.

I generally ride on short business trips like that, as long as I have a decent chance of getting through mountain passes in my area without snow accumulating. Donner Summit on a bike in the snow with traffic is not a lot of fun!
As long as you have good gear, and the weather holds, it sounds like a fun ride.

You are going to freeze your ar se off, be cold miserable and tired for your meeting. The ride home might be ok but getting there is going to be a pain. Forget the "sunshine rider" stuff, sometimes it pays to take the car. (and think of all the tread on your back tyre you are saving)
And the expressway is gonna be dull, dull, dull....

Hmm...I think I would ride, that way I could read or do something else and let someone else have the headache of driving. Have a safe trip!

I may have missed you, as the question says it was asked 8 hours ago.
In any case, I would ride.
But, then again, that's what I do.
