I would start by coming to Colorado for a long exploratory vacation. See if you both even like it. You won't have moved everything you own just to find out you don't like cold or the altitude or there are no jobs in your field. Hopefully you will both fall in love with our beautiful state and want to move here.
Also check CraigsList for the part of Colorado you are looking at. There are localized .CraigsLists that will give you some idea of the job market and the housing costs.

The first step would be to find jobs. The unemployment rate is high right now. Then, look for a place that isn't too far from where you're working.
It's a big step without a support system, but look at it as an adventure.
My parents took the same step when I was a little girl and we moved from Michigan to Colorado, and never regretted it. Now it's home and I can't imagine living anywhere else.

i moved all the way out to colorado from connecticut in 2002 and have been here ever since. i had no job or family here either but i decided this was were i really wanted to be so i packed up my car and drove out. i saved up money before i left of course and had to stay in a cheap hotel for a couple nights til i found a place to rent, but after that i went job hunting and took whatever i could get to pay the bills and have moved forward from there as i met new people and as other opportunities arose.
