how do you remove aluminum oxide(Al2O3) to get elemental Aluminum?

a lab my son is doing calls fro pure aluminum, and it specifically note there can be no aluminum oxide on it, please help im stuck.

    commercially Al is extracted by electrolysis of molten alumina (bauxite) dissolved in cryolite to allow lower temps

    heating alumina strongly with calcium or magnesium would work but it would be dangerous as all get out

    if you could get the alumina to react to form a soluble salt and then adjust the pH to 7 or higher, then magnesium (ribbon) would replace aluminum ions from solution

    good luck - seems a daunting task
