Old Science Guy

When I ask various providers all I get is a sales pitch for their goodies (which usually do not meet my needs).

I would like to find some local help and am willing to pay for good information.

How do I go about that?

We worked in a narrow valley where three major lines converged: NP, GN and UP. I could tell which line was coming through by the distinctive sound of their air horns.

For instance The Burlinton Line was a joint NP/GN RR and occasionally a Burlington loco would come through with its single tone bass horn.

I cannot find information on which RR used which horns (the chord they played).

Any help out there?

The lines appear when framing and also in the taken picture.

The lines flicker and flit about frequently nearly obscuring the whole picture.

The lines come and go but even at best I can find a few when I zoom in.

The LCD display is OK - I can see previously taken pics just fine.

I suspect that the CCD or associated circuitry is toast.

Anyone have any helpful ideas?

A while back I downloaded a program from CNET.

I had good luck with them in the past but I got all sorts of garbage with the program and my browsers were hijacked and modified. Took a lot of time to fix the mess.

I called them and they kindly explained that I must have let some 'optional' programs through and that I could decline them, if I so chose.

Yesterday I downloaded a video editor from CNET and as carefully as I could I 'declined' the add-ons.

Well, I got a b--t load of crap anyway.

Hijacked my browsers - changed homepages - added toolbsrs, etc.!

Parts of the mess were difficult to uninstall and even after uninstalling everything I could find I still have some strange search engine trying to insinuate itself.

Oh, and after uninstalling without getting rid of all the mess I went ahead and did 'restore wystem' back to a good state from last week.

Even after that the 'new' search engine lingers

and

Firefox stopped working and I had to re-install.

I'm inclined to think that CNET is no longer to be trusted.

What do you think?

We would like to let our office manager run the main office computer from a remote location across the net. Have looked at GoToMyPC, LogMeIn and some others but much confusion remains.

The remote will have to be able to print to office printers as well as run all programs.

Questions keep cropping up about set up and bandwidth requirements.

We originally had 3 months to get this going but now it's down to a week - best laid plans.....

May need to hire help to get it done quickly.

Any suggestions would be helpful and sincerely appreciated.

Now I get it. Copy/paste DOES work but only hard coded symbols survive the transition.

Formats such as subscripts and superscripts just go 'blooey'.

Next Q is do I want to beat myself up to make things look 'just so'?

I see that some answers have the correct format so it IS possible.
