If you were to lose materialistic possessions, would you allow yourself to become miserable?

True, this is a crippling situation but to would you shut down mentally? Things such as a job, your house burned down, etc. And lets just say that its one or the other but not all. Would you allow the energy around you to consume you to a darkened state of mind? And if so, would you allow or how would you prevent your state of mind from effecting anyone else?

    Hey beautiful,

I think it's a case of how much you are used to depending on material things. I find people who are more relaxed about losing things have had life pretty easy, and do not know the meaning of working hard for them.

On the other hand, people who have strived for their possessions are more likely to be devastated when they are taken away or lost.

I think if you are strong enough to build up all your materialistic things and sustain them, you would have a stronger mind, and be able to cope better than somebody who has been given everything and doesn't know the hardships of earning.

Of course it would be different from person to person, but if I personally lost my job I would strive to find another and keep my chin up and keep on joking about things, after all it is only a job! Same goes for if my house burned down, it's hard to lose things that are personal to you, but it is 1000x harder to lose SOMEONE, so again you have to keep morale high to keep moving forward in a positive way..

Material possessions, beyond the necessities of clothing, food and shelter have always made me feel trapped. Limiting my possessions, after losing all of them twice, has made me feel free. I can put my worldly possessions in a garbage bag and be on my way, instead of worrying about protecting my possessions form the elements or the outside world. this gives me more time to focus on experiencing life rather than buying it.

Na, I have learned stuff is just stuff. There was a time when I thought material possessions meant something..when I lost the ones I really Loved..I quickly and painfully learned what is really important in life. I am learning to let my light shine again..It is too lonely in the darkness:)

No. I've lost everything at least 3 times.

You just move on and be thankful no-one got hurt or killed.

Once you replace the needful things, you hardly notice but I do miss my baseball glove I had in little league.
