I have a Captain Problem?
I was captain of my volleyball team last yr but recently me an my team mates had a little argument about who would be captain this yr. I did a good job last yr, but because I'm the best on the team I have more haters than real friends(I'm dead Serious). I feel like I lead by example a lot an i am nice to pretty much everybody an I also keep up the energy an spirits when we're losing. I want to be captain this yr too but my coach is having our team vote on the captains again this yr an today everybody made me feel like I'm all alone in this situation except for my few really good friends on the team.
What should I do??? ??? ??? ??? ??? ??? ??? ??? ??? ??? ???

You coach is wrong in having your team vote on a captain. At the high school level, voting becomes a popularity contest and not a true measure of court composure.
A captain need to lead vocally and by example.
You need to have great court awareness and be able to manage your team.
You coach needs to make this decision based on previous years experience. I captain is never/rarely a player that is new to the team.
A captain is not the best player, they are the best leader.
Back in high school i was captain for the first half of the season and had it revoked (in a not insulting manner) because I was setting and had to worry too much about running plays and communicating with my teamates to deal with other captains responsibilities such as talking with the ref on bad calls and making sure the team was generally up beat.

As a coach, I used to let my team vote for captain. Until the one season, the team selected the worst possible captain. She argued with the referees. She argued with me. She was rude to most of the team. But she had 4 close friends and won the election. I made it 2 tournaments before I selected a captain. (Her parents got me fired after the next tournament. And it was the best thing that happened. What a relief. The coach they hired to take the team quit in the middle of her first tournament with the team. The director coached them the rest of the tournament and suspended the 5 troublemakers and sent the rest of the players to different teams.)
The captain needs to know the rules. The captain needs to know their responsibilities. The captain needs to be positive with all of the team all of the time. Not just with their friends. The captain congratulates the players that just made the good plays and encourages the players that just made the not so good plays. The captain never argues with the referees, teammates, or the coach.
If that is really you, the team will know and will vote you as the captain. If not, try to do those things anyway. You need to do what is best for the team. If you are the captain, great. If not, that is also great. It is the team that is important. Not the captain.

Don't worry I basically went through the exact same thing too. All you really can do is try your best and, no matter what, DO NOT SHOW OFF OR ACT LIKE A KNOW-IT-ALL. Being nice helps, but don't make it seem fake and like you are just being nice to be captain. Also be up beat, and try to have fun while still paying attention to your coach. Oh, and do NOT ditch your good friends either. Basically, all you can do is try your best and, if you are not picked as captain, still keep an upbeat attitude.
Also, when you are in line (for example, when you are hitting or spiking) high five people and smile or say, "Nice spike" when they are walking to the back of the line. This is contagious and pretty soon your whole team will see how nice and thoughtful you are =] good luck!

Aww that probably isn't your coaches best idea. Your coach should know that there are going to be cliques on the team. Just forget the haters, focus on becoming a better player and just hang out with your good friends. But also remember that you are all on a team... so even if you don't all love eachother, you have to tolerate each other and play like a team. Hopefully your coach will see the err of her decision, and she may override your teammates decisions. good luck!

thats the one thing i hate about volleyball the haters that are your own teammates. Im team captain fight now for my high school and club team nnd you seem to be the perfect example of a captain but even if you not captain you can still contribute to the team. BUt make them girls feel stupid and be the best one on the team.
