Could "Carrying Your Love With Me" be an appropriate wedding song father/daughter dance?
I'm not the biggest country fan but my dad is a total cowboy and country seems more heartfelt, so I would prefer a country song. I'm having trouble finding a father/daughter song that hasn't been beaten to death already, but I really love George Strait's "Carrying Your Love With Me". I just know it was written with a different intention, so I worry whether or not it would be appropriate. I keep listening to it while picturing it playing during the dance, and half the time I think 'Yes, this could work!' and the other half I think 'Eh...this doesn't really work.' So, I need some opinions! :)
You can watch the video at:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=adcixPh_cTY
The lyrics are:
"Baby all I got is this beat up leather bag.
And everything I own don't fill up half.
But don't you worry 'bout the way I pack.
All I care about is getting back real soon.
A goodbye kiss is all I need from you.
I'm carrying your love with me.
West Virginia down to Tennessee.
I'll be movin' with the good Lord's speed.
Carrying your love with me.
It's my strength for holdin' on,
Every minute that I have to be gone.
I'll have everything I ever need.
Carrying your love with me.
On a lonely highway, stuck out in the rain.
Darlin' all I have to do is speak your name.
The clouds roll back and the waters part.
The sun starts shining in my heart for you.
You're right there in everything I do, 'cause...
I'm carrying your love with me.
West Virginia down to Tennessee.
I'll be movin' with the good Lord's speed.
Carrying your love with me.
It's my strength for holdin' on,
Every minute that I have to be gone.
I'll have everything I ever need.
Carrying your love with me."
I have no intention of using "I Loved Her First". I'm not a fan of the song, not to mention it is played to the ground at weddings. I want something unique that doesn't scream "Father/Daughter!," but still gets the point across. "There Goes My Life" isn't really appropriate for my relationship with my father, nor did he have me when he was young. I would really prefer something a little more classic than contemporary, as well.

If you don't want to use the normal songs that are being played, try listening to this song... It's by a local band here in my area & my daughter danced with her daddy to it on her wedding day. If you like it, I have it here on my computer & I should be able to send it to you....
In case the link doesn't work, you can hear the song on his myspace page. His name is David Glenn.... The song is "Daddy's Little Girl"..

I'm going through the same thing as you are, except I'm a huge country fan and my wedding is going to be all country!
One song I'm considering is "More than You'll Ever Know" by Travis Tritt. It's really sweet and totally perfect, and doesn't at all scream "father-daughter", the ONLY line that bugs me a little is "I couldn't want you more"... but I guess a father could either want or not want a daughter, right? It's not a super twangy country song, so you might like it. There's a live version on youtube. Good luck!
Lyrics:
I know living with me ain't always easy
I dam up emotions some men just let flow
But girl when you're not by my side I feel a part of me has died
'Cause I love you more than you'll ever know
More than life more than I've ever loved before
It's absurd and beyond words
I couldn't want you more
And when I try to pour my hear out to you
I'm not sure it shows
That I love you more than you'll ever know
I'm sure you've heard it said hearts have windows
But mine has doors a painful past has closed
Unless someday they open wide revealing feelings locked inside
I'll love you more than you'll ever know
More than life more than I've ever loved before
It's absurd and beyond words
I couldn't want you more
And when I try to pour my hear out to you
I'm not sure it shows
That I love you more than you'll ever know
Even when I pour my heart out to you
I'm not sure it shows
That I love you more than you'll ever know
Yes I love you more than you'll ever know

The Father/Daughter dance at your wedding should include a song that reminds you of your father. It doesn't matter what others think of the song.
I was just helping my Sister in Law decide on a Father/Daughter song for her wedding. Check out this website for "appropriate" songs: http://www.weddingwire.com/wedding-songs/father-da...
EDIT: What's up with all the thumbs downs?? Not one person has a thumbs up....Y/A! is for OPINIONS of other people...enough with all the immaturity!! Seriously!

Personally I would not do a father/daughter dance to it, but its up to you. I would go w/ something like "Daddy's Hands" by Holly Dunn or something slow and sweet that describes your relationship w/ your dad or something that describes your dad. Also, Tim McGraw has one called "My Little Girl" thats super sweet. Its not very old though. Good luck!

No I think a better choice would be "I Loved her First" by Heartland or "THere GOes my Life" By Kenny Chesney

Absolutely!! That would be a great song....if the lyrics fit your relationship with your dad, then it would be wonderful for the ocassion.

If your relationship with your father was that special, then yes, go with it.
