Is it worth it to rent a jeep in Hawaii?
I'm planning to go to Hawaii in a few weeks and we were thinking of renting a jeep. I've heard both good and bad things. Has anyone out there rented one and is it worth it? We have a free rental, so we can pretty much get whatever we want, so the price is not the factor. We just want to have fun. Oh yeah, we're headed to the Big Island, so another factor is 4WD a nice thing to have or not really necessary. Thanks for the help!

I would definitely recommend the jeep if you only have 2 people, any more than that and it will get a little crowded with the luggage. You don't really need 4WD unless you plan on seeking out some 4wheeling. And get the convertible soft top, they're the most fun.

I think since you have the free rental, go ahead with the jeep. There are some roads that require the four wheel drive. It's nice also to be able to get from place to place in a car and not have to worry about it. It does rain a lot and often in the islands, so be sure you have sufficient coverage of your vehicle. Have a great trip and make sure to stop by Hilo and Kailua-Kona! Aloha!
