23 years old and I want a tubligation?

I am 23 and married got married June 20th 2009 and I never want kids for the simple fact that I have Mental Illnesses and take medication, if I ever do get pregnant I will need to stop all my medication which isn't a very good idea. My husband doesn't want kids either which is a good thing. My problem is that I looked on Webmd.com and they say that most doctors wont do it unless your over 30 years of age. Does anyone know if because I have mental illnesses that a doctor will do it? Should I call my physician? Oh and by the way I take a birth control pill but I don't always want to rely on it.

I would think if you talked to your doctor and explained, they would understand your concern. I think there are exceptions to the rule.

They will typically do it if you've got at least two kids or are over 30,but I see your points. Maybe bring it up to the doctor and see what he thinks the best option is? I know I was on medicines as well, and I stopped them for pregnancy, but I"m still on narcotic medicines for severe migraines because I had a truamatic brain injury 3 years ago. I was on xanax and whatnot before I got pregnant. So I would just talk to the doctor about it,and see what he says. A lot of doctors won't do vasectomy either, unless the guy has at least one kid. You may change your mind in the future though,so think long and hard on that.

that's true doctor will not do it unless u r certain age... But you might find a doctor who would..

One of my friend did it when she was 26, she already have had two kids by then, and was sure she didn't want anymore...

Her doctor asked and her but she was sure, so that just took her statement that her doctor did advice her to wait, but it was merely her choice to do it...

This is only for his protection so no one can sue him or anything in future..

You have a right to do anything with ur body... until and unless u r not harming anyone....

when people can have an abortion w/o any problem I don't see why u would have to face a problem

    hope this helps

Ask your husband to get a vasectomy. Tubal ligation is a serious surgery where as a vasectomy takes about 5 minutes, is almost painless, and has very little recovery time. It makes more sense than you getting an invasive surgery. Plus, a vasectomy is reversible.

You could always try the pill injection (or implant) then you'll be a bit safer. I'd say 23 is too young for such a procedure and you may regret your decision when you're older.

I think it varies by the doctor. Would your husband consider getting a vasectomy if they wouldn't work on you?
