Colors for baby quilts for boy or girl?
I give baby quilts often as gifts. Due to the amount of time it takes to make one, what are some good color combinations that would work well for boy or girl?

for sure green/yellow/white
you can't really go wrong
or the rainbow pastel pink/yellow/blue/green pattern is nice too. goes either way. my aunt just made me a knit blanket like that and it could be for a boy or girl easily.
you could also do primary colors - like red/blue/yellow (and even green) not pastel. i don't think a gender has any claim on red or green or yellow. :)

I was just talking to my sister about this the other day. I have a niece who is pregnant but does not know the sex yet. My sister is wanting to make a quilt but they don't know what colors to use.
I believe any color works well for both girl or boy. I really like when all the pastel colors (lt. pink, lt. blue, mint green, lt. yellow) or primary colors (red, blue, green, yellow) is used. I believe when you mix all the colors, it is very pretty.
My sister made my son a quilt using our grandmas old fabric. On there she has all colors and even patterns of flowers or dolls, etc (just scrap material from years of collecting) but she did use red as a trim. He loves it.
Babies aren't particular on the color and I don't think a boy should not be allowed to have something with some pink on it and vise versa with a girl with blue.
I also really like how they are using brown with pink or blue with baby stuff now-- I don't know how it would look to have brown and yellow or brown and green together.
You can also do anything with animals (jungle, ocean, farm, etc). You can do moon and stars. Smiley faces or popular cartoons like Disney Pooh, Mickey/Minnie, Finding Nemo, Looney Toones, etc.
Homemade gifts are such treasures that can be kept for generations. Good Luck on next quilts!

well i just had a baby girl and had like 4 people make quilts and the one I liked the best was white purple green yellow with just a small hint of a pinkish purple color so my baby could be a girl or boy and it looked really nice either way. I got to say out of all that was made for me that one was the nicest.

Yellow and blue was the colour of both my sisters and my own baby quilts, and that's suitable for both boys and girls. Any pastel colours can work for both though! Some nice combinations are pink and blue, pink and green and pink and yellow (though that one looks quite girly, actually!). White can be used for both, too, although that stains easier and is harder to wash!

How about old jeans as the material. Go to the goodwill store any yardsale and buy the cheapest, softest, most worn jeans you can find. Cut squares out of the parts that are intact. You might even include a couple of squares with the back pocket on them for him to hide 'treasures' in. It will be super-cool and still be a great thing to have as he gets older. Hint: at the yard sales, if the zipper is broken or some other really bad defect, you might get them for free. Or ask friends and family for old throw away jeans.

yellow and white as they are both unisex colours. Or pink and blue, my sister in law just had a little girl and her mum made her a baby quilt that was a mixture of pink and blue and it was gorgeous, but if i would go for yellow and white

Yellow, a pale green color. um..some people like brown for either. I didn't know what my baby was going to be so i decided i would buy a looney toons bedding that would go for either and it has the yellow and green and some brown for like taz. Orange would go for either, red could as well.

Black and white are always the best for infants for strengthening their vision. I would say black and white with intricate patterns.
