Most likely you may be confused with the old school thinking of "watts per gallon". I have a 44 gallon salt reef tank, and I only have a Catalina Aquarium 4x24 T5 HO. I could get by with only two lights on at all times, but I have corals. You should be fine with that light depending on what is in your tank. Good luck, but check out catalina's lights, they are sick.

No you can't. You're not supposed to "exceed the maximum wattage"
