A question about baseball for kids under 12 years of age?

Question

I am a grandmother who thinks the kids need something to do around here. I don't know much about baseball. Any helpful ideas? My grandson is 6 and a half. He has no close kids his age to play with. I was thinking about starting a baseball game for the neighborhood kids. Girls and boys if they want to do it. Any help would be appreciated.

Update:

I don't know the rules of the game. I know you are supposed to hit the ball and run 3 bases. 3 strikes you're out. That's all I know.

thats a great idea. you also could just call up kids from the school and get some parents to come down to the park and teach the kids the basics fielding hitting and baserunning.if not, just go out back and toss the wiifle ball to him/her and let them hit it trust me kids like the feeling of crushing the ball..i did

That sounds like a great idea. :)  Baseball can be a really expensive sport with equipment & what not. But I'm sure you can find kids to bring gloves and bats. They don't even have to be big name brands..bats can easily got for $200 bucks. Just have everyone try and bring something with them when they play. Also snacks!! Capri sun, peanut butter crackers, gummy bears. etc. good luck

honestly i dont think you should start a game i think if he wants to play baseball maybe buy him a net to through into to get practice a tee a good bat and glove and maybe next spring sign him up for a team
