Is my laptop overheating?
My laptop slows down at random times, causing it to freeze and crash. The fan has been running a lot louder than usual. And the temperature in the room rises since i have other things around the room turned on at the same time. Is it possible that it might be overheating I just want to be sure before replacing the fan.

When your laptop overheats , typically it wil reboot though freezing and crashing is not uncommon either. I would say download a analyzer such as "speed fan" so you can check to see if any fans are failing or if the processor is overheating.
I have repaired many laptops and the newer ones have a seperate fan that is in direct contact with the heatsink that is away from the processor.so unlike desktops, the fan may not be directly on top of the actual processor. The only time i have seen a fan on top of the processor on a laptop is a old laptop back in 2000.
Also to get to the fan is also a pain in the behind. I wouldn't recommend this to someone who have no experience in opening up a laptop as there are many many screws and also thin cabling attaching different things.

There is a much better chance you have spyware and/or viruses. They will also cause the laptop to work much harder than usually forcing the fan to go in overdrive. The best bet would be to reboot and press F8 while the computer is starting up, Start in Safe Mode and let your anti-virus, hopefully NOT Norton, do a full system scan. If some are found remove them, restart to normal and you are good to go.
