Geodon question for bipolar...?

Hey all,

I was wondering if anyone else knew about Geodon, it was recently added to my medications for being bipolar, which are Cymbalta and Ativan. I know that there is a side effect of you becoming sleepy, of that, I was forewarned and learned NOT to take both Geodon and Ativan at night to sleep. However, I feel sort of like I'm floating through the day, very numb and the numbness is not just my mind frame, my skin and tongue feel numb, I get hot flashes and I start to sweat when I'm not even hot, I have been trembling as well and I find it hard to enunciate certain words (probably because my tongue feels numb). I also sometimes feel like I'm looking at everything from inside out, if that makes any sense, kind of like watching a movie. Has anyone else had these side effects? I'm super sensitive to medications and I only started this one three days ago...I was wondering how long it took for the first side effects to wear off or perhaps I'm having an allergic reaction to the medication. Any information is helpful, as I don't want to call my doctor alarmed. Thank you!

Update:

Thanks for the answers so far! I have looked up all of the side effects but nothing really described the way that I was feeling. I completely read the info that came with the medications before I even took it and decided that it was better to take it then not if it was really only going to make me sleepy. I just wanted to know if my side effects, that weren't listed, were normal. Thank you for letting me know about the sites and thanks also for letting me know how you felt on the medication, it makes me feel a little better knowing that it might be normal.

    there are side effects to all medication, some people tolerate certain meds better than other people. everyone is different.

    go to www.webmd.com and type in geodon. learn about the medications that you are taking. if this med is too much for you to handle tell your doctor and they can help you. I PROMISE that there are so many meds out there for this issue.

    Before taking this medicine

    You should not use this Cymbalta if you are allergic to duloxetine, or if you have untreated or uncontrolled glaucoma.

    Do not use Cymbalta if you have used an MAO inhibitor in the past 14 days. A dangerous drug interaction could occur. MAO inhibitors include isocarboxazid, linezolid, methylene blue injection, phenelzine, rasagiline, selegiline, tranylcypromine, and others. After you stop taking Cymbalta, you must wait at least 5 days before you start taking an MAOI.

    To make sure Cymbalta is safe for you, tell your doctor if you have:

    - liver or kidney disease;

    - seizures or epilepsy;

    - a bleeding or blood clotting disorder;

    - high blood pressure;

    - narrow-angle glaucoma;

    - bipolar disorder (manic depression); or

    - a history of drug abuse or suicidal thoughts.

    Some young people have thoughts about suicide when first taking an antidepressant. Your doctor will need to check your progress at regular visits while you are using Cymbalta. Your family or other caregivers should also be alert to changes in your mood or symptoms.

    It is not known whether Cymbalta will harm an unborn baby. However, Cymbalta may cause problems in a newborn if you take the medicine during the third trimester of pregnancy. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant while using this medicine.

    If you are pregnant, your name may be listed on a pregnancy registry. This is to track the outcome of the pregnancy and to evaluate any effects of Cymbalta on the baby.

    Duloxetine can pass into breast milk and may harm a nursing baby. You should not breast-feed while taking this medicine.

    Do not give this medicine to anyone younger than 18 years old without the advice of a doctor.

    I'm schizoaffective, I used to be on Geodon for a couple of years (misplaced a few weight) and it gave the look of I used to be continuously in a manic temper, my psychiatrist converted me to Seroquel (400mg), Effexor XR (75mg) and Lamictal (150mg), the Seroquel is an antipsychotic and is helping with the ones signs, Effexor is for despair and works rather good, the Lamictal is for moods, it really works exceptional for me, bigger then Depakote or Lithium did. It's frightening while replacing meds, however generally, it is surely valued at it. Hope this is helping. Good success. Sheila

    Medicines affect different people differently, because of different body chemistry. Unfortunately, medicines that help most people mentally will have a negative effect mentally on other people.

    It is really not good to be on a medicine that is having a bad effect on you mentally. It may even make your illness worse. I suggest that you don't wait for the side effects to wear off (they won't) Call your doctor about what you're going through and ask him to give you another medicine. You have to keep trying until you find a medicine that has side effects that don't bother you. I'm sure something will work for you.

    i used to get the floaty feeling so my mum called my doctor and said i eould be fine and to call back in 2 weeks if it still happened. after about 4 weeks i was fine. everyone reacts differently though and if you keep getting side effects you should really speak to your doctor.
