Bottom line, you need someone to talk to, like Matt Damon talking to Robin Williams in Good Will Hunting (though he clearly didn't know to appreciate it in the beginning). Therapy has helped a lot of people, but on the other hand there is no protection against unscrupulous therapists who are good actors but only care about what they get paid by the hour (and how hard is it to daydream while occasionally saying something to keep the conversation going while the patient is spilling his guts out)? So if you decide that therapy is the way to go, your first and most important challenge will be to find someone you completely trust and feel comfortable working with. Also, if you have insurance, investigate how much they will cover. If you fail on the first task, and do not have insurance, it opens the door to throwing money down a rat hole for years and years and getting nothing in return.
In therapy, as a patient, it's a fine line between trusting the therapist to move along at an appropriate time table (not purposefully dragging the sessions out, not seeing the patient as a cash cow) and being focused on resolving the questions that are bothering you. That means occasionally asking yourself, "OK...what has been accomplished here today exactly?" Since one of your issues is addiction to prescription medication, I would advise against trying to treat that with other medication.
There is a great book called Toxic Psychiatry which explores how prescription meds and anti-depressants are over- and mis-prescribed by psychiatrists everywhere, because the monetary payoff is huge. It's not about the patient, it's about the kickbacks from the drug companies.
You need a good friend, or a good therapist - preferably both. You should also be getting plenty of exercise, and at least 1,000 I.U. of Vit. D and a gram of mercury-free fish oil every day. Feel free to email me @ icelanderson@yahoo.com. Good luck.

Yes, it works. It often works best on combination with some other medications, e.g. antidepressants or anti-anxiety meds.
In a nutshell, counseling will help you do a better job of spotting the things that trigger your outbursts and helping you to think and manage your response instead of responding reflexively (sp?) with an angry outburst.
It'll also help you to do a better job of recognizing situations where an outburst is possible and avoiding them or at least preparing for them.
Lastly, it'll help you figure out the real issues that are generating such a powerful emotional response. We both know that when you have an angry outburst because your roommate didn't pick up his socks that it has nothing to do with your roommate or his socks, by way of example.
All that having been said, it's not a magic bullet or an instant fix. It's like exercising or learning a new skill; it takes time, practice and dedication, and your progress will include plateaus and setbacks. But yes, it most definitely works.

I can see your problem and your concern.
You need to talk with the doctor who gave you the meds you are on.
Is there any chance he can prescribe something else, one that would help you give up your addiction? I urge you to get all the help available. You can kick this habit and become your happy self again.
Frankly I do not fault your fiance', I would do the same thing. Anger is an ugly emotion that is not constructive, and in my opinion anger is a choice.
When you decide to blow up next, ask yourself if it is worth so much emotion. Learn to choose your battles. I mean is throwing a temper tantrum, because someone is a little late going to make them get there earlier??? Think it through before you react. You are going to find that you like yourself much better when you begin using this technique! Prayer also works.
I wish you well!

Well, this can be a very tricky quandary and I'm going to deliver you to fine reply I can. The trouble, I might say, is your enviroment. You have grown up in an enviroment that makes you desire to do those matters, although you already know they're unsuitable. Whenever you get mad, you need to be extra comfy. I are aware of it's hard, however it is whatever you must do if you are fairly severe approximately in need of not to harm someone anymore. You additionally might desire to consider approximately watching to the Lord relating to disorders like this. Whenever you get very irritated, simply bow your head and pray, the Lord will do the relaxation. All I can say is be robust (now not actually) and do what you consider is proper. Knowing proper from unsuitable is your fine resolution. I desire you get your anger below manipulate. :)

Yes it does.I had a pain killer addiction 8 years ago that dam near killed me,TWICE!!!!!!!It's nice to have someone you can talk to about your life's problems and help you find the answers to them.I also was on anti depressants for awhile and as my therapy progressed,I stopped taking pills all together and my head became more clearer.I started to think before I acted on my emotions.I started thinking about what the consequences would be if I didn't.My suggestion is to go see a counselor, therapist or psychiatrist to help you out and don't worry about what others think of you.My family, friends and co-workers were all so proud of what I did and believe me,there is a light at the end of that long, dark tunnel. It's just going to take some time to get there.Good luck to you.
