Navy Veteran Stationed in VA. What does it mean?
If a veteran was in the navy and stationed on a ship out of virginia, what exactly does that mean? It does not seem like a combat. What would be some good questions to ask without seeming totally ignorant?

what type of ship was it, cruiser, destroyer, aircraft carrier, submarine, etc. VA (Norfolk) is the largest Navy base in the world. What part of VA. There are several bases in the Hampton Roads area, ask him if he was there or further up north. Did he do anything fun off-duty, Busch Gardens, Williamsburg for example. Ask what he did in the Navy, did he ever go to the brig (ship's jail cells), ever fallen over board, what was his rank, how did he earn it (officer or enlisted)

Ask where the most interesting place this person took liberty at (sometimes Navy personnel get to get off the ship when it docks, and that can be anywhere from Turkey to Africa.) Ask what they learned in their time of service, and if they would have done it all over again, if they had a choice, and why or why not? Ask normal questions, like what they like to do in their spare time and what's important to them.

There is a Naval base in Norfolk , Virginia and a lot of the ships in the Atlantic fleet are based there. Alsdo, there is a Naval air station in Virginia, and there are also shipyards in Virginia.
These ships will dock there for supplies and repairs when they are not out at sea.

Does he have a girl in every port?!
Did he every contracted STD's?!
Did he every bend down to pick up a bar of soap while taking a shower in a communal shower?!
A ship depolys or goes on a cruise worldwide!
The ship is based in Virginia!

A service member is someone who is still in the military.
A veteran is someone who is no longer in the military.
You can ask...What's your day like? What is your military occupational speciality...mos...and what training did you have to do for this?
Have you been on any MEu's or WesPacs...
What's the longest you have been out to sea?

that's where the ship is home ported...out of VA they patrol the Atlantic and Mediterranean Sea for the most part...ask about life on the ship, ports of call and stuff like that
