    "Tania's 2nd mom" has a good answer.

I always like Mayo Clinic reviews since I spent some time there as a med student.

    This is good too. http://www.medicinenet.com/brain_tumor/page10.htm

Prognosis depends on histologic type and grade as well as resectability - location and extent of primary tumor mass.

To give you some idea, ACS data from 2008 shows 21,810 malignancies of the brain and nervous system diagnosed in the U.S. with 13,070 deaths.

Percentages cannot be given unless the Dr knows what kind of tumor it is, is it operable, the location of the tumor. etc. If the Dr cannot operate, as in my brother's case, they will still suggest chemo. I'll use my brother as an example. At first, the chemo shrunk his tumor 90% and stopped, They still could not operate because it was too deep inside his brain. He went into remission for a year and when that happened, of course his survival rate went up. then the tumor grew again with a vengeance. It grew so fast that chemo could not keep up with it. It wasn't long after that, that it spread to his spine and a lot of other things just went down hill from there and he died within 8 mon. My sister was a different story. She had brain cancer twice. Each time she had successful surgery and the tumors were able to be removed. She went through chemo and radiation and was recently given a clean bill of health. So it all depends on the type, location and everything else I mentioned to determine or give a percentage as far as surviving brain cancer. April should be able to answer this so listen to her. She knows.
