Did the Doctor prescribe progesterone for you?
I've had two late miscarriages and the doctor advised me to go on to progesterone if I become pregnant again. I know it's a hormone, but what will it do. I should have asked the doctor at the time, but I didn't think of it.

I'm sorry to hear about the two miscarriages.
The progesterone thickens the uterine lining. This helps the embryo stick and burrow better, thus preventing miscarriage. Progesterone comes in two types. One is a vaginal insert. The other is an intramuscular injection. Your doctor will let you know which one is best for you.
We did in vitro earlier this year. I was put on Progesterone shots for 3 weeks then vaginal inserts for a month after our first egg transfer. Everything was successful after our first try. Our son will be here in October.
Good luck with everything :-)

I'm taking progesterone and I'm six weeks pregnant.
Progesterone is the hormone that makes it possible for the baby to settle in in the womb and helps to maintain the pregnancy throughout the first trimester.
It was probably suggested if one of the reasons behind your miscarriages was hormonal insufficiency (if progesterone levels fall, you miscarry).
If in doubt, go and speak to you GP.
