Is it okay to ask for prayer?

I'm a Christian, and I noticed how some people in church might ask the father to make an announcement to pray for them. I have a few struggles in my life right now, but I was never comfortable with asking other people to pray for me. I don't know, it just seems like some people treat asking other people to pray for them is like having them sign a petition for God, and if enough people sign it God'll make it happen. I've been asked by people to pray for them and it always made me uncomfortable.

I'm trying not to ramble but failing miserably. T.T If this question made any sense to you, please help. Is it okay to ask others to pray for you?

God knows the way you get closer to him. If praying for others upon being asked makes you uncomfortable, then both you and God know that that is not helping your Christian faith, it might even be making it worse.

It is okay to ask others to pray for you. What's not okay is when they expect you to do it simply because they ask. You're doing everything correctly. In my eyes, it might even be selfish for them to ask you to pray for them, when you have to be the one to unconditionally give it to them.

I'm sure God doesn't play the numbers game, as you so perfectly put it. It's not like the more people you have on your side, the more you'll get your way. I highly doubt that God is like that.

Under the Christian beliefs, doesn't God grant people his blessings if he wants it? So no amount of people will ever get him to make a prayer "more likely" to happen. Your religion is between you and God, not between your community and God, no matter what anybody says. You know what strengthens your faith, and obviously prayer-from-others doesn't help.

OF COURSE IT"S OK TO ASK PEOPLE TO PRAY FOR YOU

Having others Pray for you choices God that your deeply troubled and you need him in your life now more then ever and that you are serious about seeking God out for Guidance . Not to say that if you pray to God on your own Behalf that your prays go unanswered because that is not the case. God hears ALL prays regardless if we think he does or not it is just the matter of if he choices to answer your prays right then or wait until he feels it is the right time. Gathering around people who share the same faith as you will give you encouragement and hope that things will get better..they may even have a few solutions on how to solve your problems if they do RIGHT THERE is how God decided to solve your prays. Don't keep things bottle up if you have a problem talk to you Church Family they can help. If you want me to Pray for you I will Pray for you (you can email me what ever it is that you are having troubles with) Even if you don't feel comfortable with telling me what is bothering you I will still pray for you because I might not know your troubles/concerns & I don't even know who you are but Jesus knows all these things He knows your needs and wants far more then you know them.

I hope all goes well for you in your life and you continue to seek out The Lord your Savior Jesus Christ. May He bless you in your life always

You have not gone into rambling.....

I gotta tell you, I went to a church I hadn't been back to for awhile and the Pastor asked the congregation if anyone needed prayer to write the prayer down and put it in the offering plate when it came around. So, I'm thinking, writing it down means it will be collected and passed on to some prayer group that meets some weekday. Right? WRONG! Unknown to me, the Pastor takes the written prayers and reads them outloud to the entire congregation! OMGosh! I wanted to jump under the pew and not come back out til hymn time. A few people came up to me after the service and asked about the prayer. They were genuine and caring people of prayer, but to be honest with you, I'd prefer to go it anonymously. I'm just a private person and sharing the deepest things of life with people face to face is really difficult and uncomfortable for me. So, sometimes, you feel uncomfortable because you're a private person; sometimes it can be because you have a cautious personality and have difficulty trusting people; sometimes your concerns are justified; sometimes your concerns are spiritual muscles you haven't learned to stretch yet and need to; sometimes your concerns are about you and sometimes your concerns are about the other people. You have to decide which of those apply to you. Attempt to stretch and reach out and see what happens. Know this, though, that Scripture says that if anyone seeks wisdom, they should ask God themselves. Sometimes we need help and encouragement in prayer. It's not a requirement, but it is useful and helpful and many times very powerful.

    Now, how's that for rambling......?

Yes. Chrisitan family is a blessing to us. At our church we have a prayer list and our preacher ( not my father) I have only one father, my Father who ART in Heaven and you tell your prayer request and all people pray for you are are led by God. I need your help in explaining something. How come in the end of the Gosels of mark, luke and matthew that Christ gives us the power to share the gospel and he taught his disciples to pray and we know that the nature of God never changes , yet you, as a servant and apostle of Christ cannot pray to God. Do you not know that God knows every thought of your mind , good and bad and including your prayers? Can you disregard these things that I say when in the book of revelation God says that whosover shall "take of this book (Bible)" his name shall also be taken of the book of life. I pray that you pray to God and ask him. Worship God and thank him for his love.

No petition nor ceremony of the "pharisee" can save you , there is no pergatory, your chance to be saved is now. Jesus Died for your sins.

Intercessory prayer is very important! When you ask others to pray for you, it strengthens your prayer request, and you. (There is strength in numbers!) Think of prayer as a direct line to God, so please don't be afraid to ask for prayer, He is listening!

    Jeremiah 29:12-13

"Then you will call upon me and go and pray and I will listen to you.

{13} And you will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart."

A humbling thing about God is, He will answer your prayer, but in His time not yours and in a world where everybody wants everything now, a lot of people don't like that! But for those who learn to wait upon the Lord, He will answer, and He'll give you the answer that is best for you! After all... He created you, so He would know what is best for you!

    Matthew 18:20

"...because where two or three have come together in my name, I am there among them."

Praying with a group is very strengthening. God loves for his sons and daughters to band together for a cause. Asking your friends to pray with you or for you is an awesome idea. Nothing is garanteed... Gods will is in your best intrest though... so no matter how many people pray, you may not get your desire... But yeah its definetly ok.

The Apostle Paul was always asking people to pray for him.

2 Thessalonians 3:1 Finally, brethren, pray for us, that the word of the Lord may run swiftly and be glorified, just as it is with you,

Ephesians 6:17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; 18 praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints 19 and for me, that utterance may be given to me, that I may open my mouth boldly to make known the mystery of the gospel, 20 for which I am an ambassador in chains; that in it I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak.

Matthew 18:19 "Again I say to you that if two of you agree on earth concerning anything that they ask, it will be done for them by My Father in heaven. 20 For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them."

So, yes, it is OK to ask for prayer. It is known as petitioning God with prayer in agreement because you believe that what you are praying for is according to His will to come to pass here on earth.

It's definitely okay to ask others to pray for you. I don't ask for prayers either because I think there are others out there that need it more than me. But honestly I need prayers just as much as the next person.

I will add you to my prayers tonight.

Could you pray for my father who is having surgery tomorrow morning?

Of course it's ok to ask for prayer. In my church we have a prayer ministry team that goes in front by the pulpit at the end of the service that are there to pray for others.
