No sound device installed on computer?

We had normal Vista and installed Vista Premium. (I hate Vista now!) and ever since then our speakers don't work. I have tried other speakers, it says that there is no sound device installed. Can any one help. How do I re-install what ever has become uninstalled and how did it happen in the first place? It is a Dell computer..

Most computers these days have sound hardware on the motherboard, to save the cost of a sound card. If your Dell has this, then you need a driver for it. You can probably get this at Dell's website, by searching for drivers under the model no.

If that doesn't work, then you can buy a pretty good sound card for about $20 these days. Plug it in and install the drivers that come with it.

the driver for your sound card or onboard sound card(which ever you use) needs to be installed.

if its store bought, down load the driver(a piece of software) for your model. if its was custom built we need more info.
