  • Which culture does this best describe?

Hello. I am sorry in advance that this is so long, however, I am in the midst of writing a book based on a dream that I had. The story begins with a child who lives in a commune like community. Their beliefs are quite simple in the manner that they have little to no electricity, no phones nor do they use motor vehicles. They live in the forest and build their homes from wood and leaves, they grow their own fruit and vegetables and help eachother to build these homes and farm the land, even though each family has their own farm, they believe greatly in helping eachother. They were simple clothes but are not under the belief of growing beards, although their dress sense is modest.

I have done a bit of research and am at a loss as to who these people may be or where they could’ve possibly have evolved from. I would like to allow my book to be as realistic as possible, so I am seeking advice and guidance with what type of background these people could come from. I do not feel they are hippies as they wear clothes and do not practise nudity or “free love”, they do get married and generally do not cheat. I also do not feel they are Amish, as they do not worship “God as his role is in their lives. I feel that this is more of an ancient culture and am unsure which road to start to look down.

The women wear long flowing dresses with bare feet or sandals. They do not bare lot of flesh or wear a large amount of jewellery other than crystals.

The men wear long pants or knee length shorts (although in their past I feel lyon cloths may have been worn). The men hunt food and are very skilled at this. Their chests are hardly ever bare, unless they are working in extreme heat or possibly when they are hunting. Because they work of the land, most of the men are quite strong and athletic looking, with olive skin from the sun. They do usually accept people/outsiders into their tribe/commune but only when a person marries into it and once they do this they remain.

Their beliefs are more of a spiritual nature, where the respect the earth, her creatures (they never kill unless it is for food) and see/sense peoples energy. They also believe in healing/Riekii and can also sense people’s motives or feelings, which they call “reading people”, some of them are also quite gifted physics. They also use crystals and herbs and talk to the trees, earth, etc and may cast spells, which is more like “earth magic”.

There is no formal schooling for children as they are brought up to live of the land and help their neighbours. (The main character in my book is actually sent away to go to school). The males are taught to hunt at a very early age and are often taken into the woods with their father to learn how to hunt and fight. The women are not generally encouraged to do this, they tend to learn the more spiritual side of things and arts and crafts, although the males are permitted to learn some of the spiritual side of things.

They do have an ancient language, although very few of them, apart from the elders speak it. The men tend to govern the house hold.

If any one can help me with this, I would be most grateful. If I have a few ideas from people or even if some one thinks this sis familiar and wants to share this with me, it would greatly assist me.

    Thank you.

  • What does "Its not a viable time for children" really mean?

I am really feeling quite lost right now. My fiance and I have been trying for a baby for just over a year. With both of us being in our early 30's (I am 33, he is 35), I feel that we are best continuing to try and I thought he thought so too. We went and got tested and it came back that his sperm are swimming slow and that he is best getting it retested. He has started saying that "Children may not be a viable option right now". meaning that he now thinks that we can't afford it. I understand that, but as I pointed out to him, there is never a good time fianacially to have children. I am unsure of what to do. Is he just trying to get out of having kids? Can he really just not be bothered beacuse he has to do some thing? I am so confused and sad right now and I am unsure if I should stay in this relationship and wait or move on. Please help.

  • Could I still be pregnant?

I am 33, my fiance is 35. We have been trying for a baby for 10 months. My period was due 2 days ago. I have been feeling nauseous in the morning, been grumpy and forgetful, so I took a home pregnancy test yesterday, but it came up negative. There seems to be no sign of my period so far. Could I still be pregnant?

  • How do you know when to stay in a relationship or leave?

My fiance and I get along well most of the time,we know each other quite well. We had some major problems 2 years ago, where I nearly kicked him out as he was being verbally abisive and intimitating. We have worked through that and he is mostly great to me. However, every now and then he over-reacts to the smallest things, which cause me to doubt the realtionship. We were at a friends place over the weekend and I was talking to them in front of him, there was no way we were leaving him out of the conversation, but he cracked it because he felt he was being excluded and walked of (bearing in mind, we are in THEIR house), saying that if he was being excluded, he would just go read a book. I had to go in and reassure him that he wasn't being left out. He became abusive and irrational, saying that when I left the room to go to the toilet, our friend had walked into the next room and closed the door behind her, thus excluding him again. I did explain to him that it was her house and he was over -reacting, but he just went on and on and on!!. I found myself agrreing with him just to get him to shut up. I am now remebering how I have had to be strong one all throughout the relationship, every time there are dramas or upsets, I am the strong one. He also seems at times to have to be the centre of attention, complaining that often he feels like a "stale bottkle of piss". If peopel talk and look at him ALL THE TIME he is fine, but if their attention is on some one else (especially me), he gets upset. I do try to talk to him, but he seems to think that every one but him is to blame for his actions. I would really appreciate some input or advise. I am at the end of my tether with all these over-reactions!

  • I am trying to quit smoking cigarettes, any tips?

I have managed to cut down from 15 cigs a day to about 7 or 8. I am tired of the smell, health side effects and money it is costing me. I amwesring a pre quit patch which allows you to smoke so you grow to hate the taste. Once this part is over, I start on the normal patchjed when I have quit. I find is fairly easy not to smoke at work, but find I am starting to smoke more when I get home and during the evening. My fiance and all my friends smoke, so it is very hard when I am around people. Does any one have anytips for me please?

  • Is this guy a closet gay or just an a**hole?

I am having some issues with a ‘friend’ of ours. My partner and I have been together for nearly 5 years. About 3 years ago, an old male friend came back on the scene. He is in his late 30’s and has had one serious girlfriend (who no-one ever met by the way, it’s just him telling us about her). This ‘friend constantly rings all the spoken for males in the group (he is the only single one, everyone else is married, engaged or has a partner with family), getting them to go over to his house. If they say no, he keeps ringing or texting, upping the antsy by saying things like “I have a new play station game”, “I have some alcohol”, “I need your help”. Some weeks this occurs on a daily basis, often up to 6 times a day. He constantly has boys’ only afternoons and does not really talk to the females in the group on the odd occasion he does actually leave his house and goes to other peoples houses.

For his birthday a few years ago, he told all the boys not to tell the girls a thing and went out and got top less bar chicks. This birthday he has again sworn all the boys to secrecy and there is talk of a vege show. I find this confusing. He refuses to go out on dates and meet women and yet when a male of the group tells him he should, he asks them to go out with him to pick up women, claiming he doesn’t know how to talk to them! The males he asks are all married or engaged and I feel quite upset by all his self centred actions and clingy ways. He once swung around to a male friend and complained saying “But, I haven’t seen you in 3 days”. He only goes over to the members of the group who are more popular and knocks back invitations to another couples house who live 5 minutes away, instead always ringing the male part of the couple and demanding he come over. It is also confusing as to why the guys actually go over all the time. I have tried talking to my partner about this and while he actually agrees with me and understands, he still goes over and tells me “Oh, that’s just him; we all know he’s selfish and controlling”. This guy also has no respect for women at all, he doesn’t appear to like strong women, as he constantly, talks when a female is talking. Please help, I am seriously beginning to think that this guy might be a closet gay. Am I right or he is just one major a**hole?

  • Will I ever get pregnant?

Hi: It has been 8 months and we have been trying for a baby. I am 33, my partner is 35 and has a 13 year old from a previous relationship. My periods are usually pretty regular, I started a period yesterday, and it was nearly 6 days late. Just when I was thinking I might be pregnant, I got my period! I am at a loss now and feel quite depressed. I have been over east for a week and am unsure if the difference in time is likely to have thrown out my menstrual cycle. Can any one please give me some tips to make conception more likely?
